WG-U5000 display issues

I have AdvanceMAME running in linux, hooked up through a J-Pac to a WG-U5000 arcade monitor.  From looking in the U5000 manual, I got the  horiz clock as 15.75 and the vertical clock at 47-63. I wasn't clear on the pixel clock, so I've tried 5-50 and 5-150.

I can see the console just fine, but none of the display modes output by advv will work. Almost all of them result in grains scrolling horizontal. A couple of the modes I can make out part of the picture, but it is scrolling vertical.

Anybody have any tips, or am I going to have to break down and buy an ArcadeVGA card?

I got the  horiz clock as 15.75

The U5000 is a dual mode monitor.
What mode is the jumper on the chassis set on? (15khz or 25khz)

Well, from looking in the service manual, It looks like the jumpers are in the bottom right of the board, next to the RGB and Sync wires. There isn't anything on the jumpers, just three empty pins, so that might be the problem.

Do I just need to bridge two of the pins to select 15/25?

Nope...your in the wrong section of the chassis.
That sounds like the video input connection. (positive sync, negative sync, composite, etc)

Look for the large connector with all the jumper wires on it.
You would move the entire connector from one selection or the other.
(should be marked 15 and 25 on the pcb itself if I remember correctly)

I'm simply asking about this to make sure you're starting off on the right khz compared to your settings.

Hmm.. maybe this isn't a U5000. The board layout is very similar, but I don't see that connector in the middle.

The number on the board is P717-I. I'll try and get some decent pics, but the monitor is in the cabinet, so it is hard to see.

Ok, this is definitely a two mode monitor. I found a sticker on the side that showed connector TP205 switched between 15 and 25. TP205 is a single pin on the board with 30V marked next to it. On it was a connector with two plugs. A white wire (which is connected to TP205 runs to some module on the corner of the board. The other wire that was not connected to TP205 is cut.

From looking  at http://www.wellsgardner.com/service/bom_reference.asp it seems the monitor is a WGM2574. I also called Midway tech support (this is a Killer Instinct 2 cabinet) and they told me the original monitor is a 2574.

I can't find any specs or details about this monitor online though, so any help I can get from you guys would be much appreciated!

WGM2574 would likely be a K7400.

Ok, here is some photos, I'm sorry for the poor quality, it's the best I could get in the cabinet.

photo.jpg is the sticker specifying 15 and 25 operation, TP205 is right above it with the white connector on it.

Yup, that's a K7400 series.

Are you sure it is a K7400? The specs on the WG site don't show that it is a dual mode monitor. Also, it looks like the K7400 remote has 7 controls and this one has 8.

Either way, the K7400 seems to have the same specs as the U5000, 15.75 Horizontal, 47-63 Vertical.

Anybody have any ideas on what I need to do to get it working with AdvanceMAME?

Someone may have given you the wrong satellite controller.  Unfortunately they all look similar and the ribbon pinout is the same.

Hmmm..... defineately NOT a U5000.
It does LOOK like a 7000 series though.

According to this it's possibly a 25K2193. (assuming it's a 25inch monitor)

Ok, I just bit the bullet and ordered the ArcadeVGA card. If anybody can help me get this monitor working before it arrives next week though, I would be forever in your debt!

Sounds to me like it IS "working".....just have to get the right resolution/sync to it.
If you ordered the ArcadeVGA then you might as well wait until it arrives to mess with it if you plan to use that.

Aside from that.... what have you been using to tweak your resolution settings?
How do you have the video signal connected to the monitor now?
(seperate positive sync, seperate negative sync, composite sync, etc)

I've been using the tools that come with AdvanceMAME. In the settings, I set pixel clock to 5-50, horizontal clock to 15.75, and vertical clock to 47-63.

Then I use an included utility named advv which lets you test all of the settings it finds for your specification to see which one works best, but none of the settings display a usable picture.

I have the monitor connected through a J-Pac, which I believe uses a composite sync through the jamma connector.
