Holy Carp! My neighbor just went crazy!
« on: July 10, 2007, 03:30:32 pm »
My regular neighbor isn't in a lot, so she got herself a roommate about two weeks ago.  Don't know much about her, but there was just....something.

About 45 minutes ago I heard glass shatter downstairs.  Then I heard my neighbor.  I have an arcade machine down there, and I was afraid she'd done something dumb.  I open the door to see what's going on, and she's breaking the window on the front door!  OMG WTF!  I quickly go back inside since the kids were right behind me and lock it.  I go to call the police, but as I'm looking out the window I see that not only is there a fire truck, but an ambulance speeding down the street towards our house.

I wait about five minutes, then pop my head out to see what's going on.  She's lying on the ground.  Several police are there, as well as several EMTs and/or paramedics.   They tell me to go back inside the house.

Few minutes later, curiosity gets the best of me, I go back out.  They're talking to her. on the front porch.  I observe for a few minutes, then go back in since Kiki keeps wanting to squeeze by me and go downstairs.

Wait about 15, poke my head out again.  Nobody.  Figure they've all gone, taken her away.  I go downstairs to survey the damage.  Looks like she didn't break any of my arcade glass, but the door is all broken and the window is completely smashed.  That's not good.  ---smurfs--- off the street can just walk in now.  Yeah...not good.

I start going upstairs, and suddenly she walks out her ---smurfing--- door!  She goes on this little rampage, and she's still ---smurfing--- there!  I'm backpedaling.  She tells me she has no clue WTF just happened.  I'm like "Uh...okay, lady, I gotta go.  Kids are fighting."

I called my landlord, got the machine.  Dunno what's going to happen, but I had to tell you guys.

Call the Police and ask what happened.  You have a right to know as you may be in fear for your childrens' safety, who also live in the building.  You should know if your neighbor is psychotic and off her meds.

Actually, that's the thing.  I do!  A nice, quiet neighborhood.

I'm going with a diabetic incident.  I can't see any other thing that would occur like that, with property damage and bizzare behaviour, that would end with her being left here.  That and her claiming she had no idea what happened - pretty common in those blood sugar outta whack cases.

Let us know what you find out.

TM: That's about right, actually.  Spoke to her earlier.  She's really embarrassed about the whole thing.

Wow, does this really happen in some diabetic incidents??  Property damage, violent outburst?  I thought people just kinda zoned out during them.  Yikes.

Yeah, anything from passing out, to seizures to sleepwalking-type violent fits.

Hey, I know my peeps.   ;)

Well, goes without saying but don't hold it against her.  Glad she didn't cut herself on any of that glass, too.

I'd still expect them to (a) pay for repairs, (b) apologise and (c) explain. If they're really hard up for cash but appear genuinely sincere about (b) and (c) then I'd probably consider going 50-50 or something but even though I don't think that people should feel ashamed about having a medical condition, that's not the same as not taking responsibility for it.  :dunno

Well, sure - that would be the right thing to do.  But sounds like any payments for damage would have to be sorted out by her and Mr. Landlord; Peale's got nothing to do with that.

My bad - didn't read it properly around his "my box is down there" since I'm not used to living in flats.

She's a coy fish and drinks like a fish, which explains why she wanted to break in and for Peale to fire up River Raid so she could drop in to the drink.

What kind of police would not stop by the person's house where the glass is all broken and the door smashed in?   I guess they assumed your neighbor never went into your house and did any damage, so they decided to just leave without checking.   Nice tax dollars at work there.  Yikes.

Multifamily unit, that was the front door, not the one into his apt.
