Monitor has a blue, horizontal line running down the middle if it

Hello,

I have a RadiKal Bikers game with a monitor problem of some kind.  When I turn on the game the monitor has a blue, horizontal line running down the middle if it.  Actually, the first time I turned the game on the picture was there and full but it rolled and would hold on the screen properly.  When I turned the game off and back on it now has the horizontal line down the middle.  Can someone please help me troubleshoot this?  I'm relatively new to arcade games so I'm not really sure where to start.  Thanks!!!

probably a dry solder joint on the flyback transformer feed to the frame i/c,depending on where you are denotes what monitor you will have-if you are in europe it will be a hantarex polo 1 or a intervideo(ahhhh)
if the dry solder joint has been present for some time you will find at the very least that the safety resistor has blown and maybe the frame i/c is shot,but you would need to fault find the 25volts line

I'm not sure what the make and model are of the monitor.  The few things I have found are 36238100691 Atari Games Corp and also 04RC0154-002.  I'll keep looking.

I think it's a K7400 series.  Def not a K7500. 

Or it's a U2000.  I'm rusty.

When I look at the 7400 model on the Wells Gardner sight it appears to be a match.  Okay, now what can I do to troubleshoot this?  Also, I heard you can get shocked by a monitor even when it's unplugged?  Is that true and what safety measures should I be taking?  Thank you

looks like a crappy u5000 to me,did you disconnected the yoke/scan coil plugs on purpose?

Not a U5000, doesn't have the resolution switching harness in the middle.

yes i see you what you mean,they are very similar apart from the frequency jumper

AFAIK the U2000, U5000, K7400 and K7500 all use the same PCB, but the silkscreening is different on all.

do they all suffer from the trace problem of the u5000,after the u5000 we did not see another wg in the u.k because of all the problems

Yes I disconnected a few of the cables on purpose becasue it was the only way to get it pulled out so to ID it.  Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this?

well its gonna be the usual suspects that occurs with all monitors-dry solder joints/broken trace,missing 25v(sometimes 12v) frame ic voltage(normally open circuit safety resistor,diode or splat cap),bad connection to remote adjustments pcb/bad pot,faulty frame ic or(highly unlikely but possible) bad yoke-i think i covered it there but there are probably people here experienced on your particular model that could jump in here with more precise information

Thanks Grantspain.  Do you know any good monitor 101 sites that explan the parts and functions of a monitor and boards.  I think I have a little to learn.

I found the monitor repair guides trouble shooting section and it lists 'no vertical scan (horitontal line center of screen)' which sounds like my issue. Then it lists a bunch of causes (codes for parts I believe)  some of which I can I have yet to ID. I'll try to figure this out...
 One question...what is a diode?
