Namco SYSTEM 256 Replacement DVD-Drive?

Anyone know where I can get a Namco System 256 (Tekken 5) replacement DVD-Drive?

I've been looking everywhere online and I can't find the exact same model... I was wondering if just any newer Toshiba DVD-ROM Drive will work?

Please let me know!

Is it an IDE drive?  Then yes.

How much does a dvd-drive usually run?  I just sent Brent Electronic an email earlier today asking for a price... hopefully they'll get back to me soon...

Unless Brent Electronic is surprisingly inexpensive, I'd think it would be worth it to find a Toshiba drive with comparable specs and try it. It's sometimes shocking how cheap these things are anymore.

Can you find the specs for the stock drive?

I've tried that... I've tested about 5 DVD-ROM drives with the same specs... no luck...

:(

I haven't tried another Toshiba drive yet though...

namco lock the drivers to a specific device so you have to buy that device from their spares dept, its the same with konami-you should have seen the problems i had trying to get a graphics card for a wartran
in short what i am trying to say is don't muck around trying loads of different dvd drives because they ain't gonna work, just pay a little extra and get the correct one

I was thinking about finding a variant of the same drive that might use the same driver. I'd only try one. Then again, even a drive with the exact same model number might have different firmware and not be compatible.

It's kind of funny you mention Konami. One reason I posted was that I recently got my Simpsons Bowling PCB running using an old Apple SCSI CD-ROM drive. Now if I could only figure out where the trackball connects to the PCB and find a cabinet I"d be set. From what I can tell, Konami likes to vary hardware greatly from game-to-game. I still think it's funny that DDR Supernova and a few other Bemani ARCADE games actually have a retail Playstation 2 in them.

Post a picture.

Likely it's five or six pins.

I should rephrase. I'm assuming it connects to a 7-pin connector on the daughter card that's labeled "1P-SIDE". I don't know the pinouts to hook it up. Can't find a manual for download or sale anywhere.

Thank you so much! Now back to our regularly scheduled topic...

MarkMan, have you found out any more about the replacement drive? Did you hear back from Brent Electronic?
