Wells Gardner Question
« on: April 22, 2003, 08:45:11 pm »
I just picked-up a Neo-Geo machine from a junk dealer for $0 and it has a W/G monitor in it but it's missing a few things. ;D  Where can I go to find replace parts or any other info on this thing? I can't get W/G to answer any of my emails. I have pics of it on my home comp. but don't know how to put them on this forum  :-[ Can anyone help?

See, when you post a message, see that box right below that says Attach:, you use that box to add a picture to your post.

Wells Gardner themselves probably doesn't even sell parts for your monitor anymore, unless you happen to have one made in the last few years.

What exactly is "missing". Are the monitor boards themselves missing? Is the tube missing? The flyback?

I should have said I don't know how to post pics without my own website, so no pics for now. I believe the parts that are missing are the flyback & boards. Do I try and find these or just start over with a new monitor?

try replying and looking down...  you don't need a website to host the pics... saint/pj etc turned on message board attachments... so you can upload them here and have them show up...

Just reply and look down...

Ok. All you have are a tube and a frame. It will (probably) be easier to track down a complete monitor than it will be to get a (known good), set of boards that fit that tube. Tubes and frames without boards are nearly worthless.

Plus, there is no guarantee that there isn't anything wrong with the tube either.

What you need to do is to go to the rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace newsgroup and post that you want to buy a monitor, along with your location.

If you don't know about newsgroups, then go to http://groups.google.com

You can save that frame and tube, because someday later you might be able to use it, but for now I would just start out with a whole monitor.

Just buy a replacement chassis to fit the yoke and tube you've got.

http://www.8liners.com

$65 for 19" chassis.

If it doesn't work (tube bad) then just find a 1980's tv that has the same tube and swap it in the frame and then you've got a nice new monitor for < $100 total.

Read the "whoooo mama" thread in this forum for more info.

All right, first off How the hell do I shrink that damn picture? I tried removing it and going back into PhotoShop and saving it at a smaller size then reposting it but it still comes out HUGE! How embarrassing!
Second question, This is where I go to figure what chassis I need right?

http://www.genao.com/datatech/monitor.html

With that and the whooooo mama post I should be electrocuting myself in no time!  ;D

Thanks

I'm trying to put together some better documentation for these chassis.  I'll try to get something up tonight.

Great! I'm looking forward to your docs too! (As well as what MameFan is putting together in the Whoo Mama post)

Also:
I think I read in that other post where someone said you could buy monitors and chassis from Victor (8liners) for like $130 + ship on Ebay. Ya that would probably be easier but don't most of us get a kind-of satisfaction or sense of accomplishment from taking a old T.V. and "bringing it back to life" so to speak in a new cabinet? I know I do/will.  ;)
