I don't think this is going to help

The funny part is that the thief actually left a replacement.   :laugh2:

Now there's a thoughtful thief.

Extra points could have been awarded if the replacement had been a little pink girl's bike with a banana seat and streamers.   ;D

I know that must SUCK royally but why, in this day and age, would you EVER leave ANYTHING out unattended?!? I would never leave a bike I wanted to keep out anywhere for even 3 minutes.

I imagine it was locked.  That section of Boston is full of expert bike thieves.

Maximum points would have been if they left the little pink bike locked with the original still working lock.

I once took a kid's bike and hid it because the moron locked it to a pole that was waist high. I also changed the combination on his old school 4 digit combination lock. Remember the ones with the colored chain sleeves and the dials that you could wiggle around and detect that it was the correct number based on looseness. Well once you had it open, you could remove the pin and mix up the 4 dials. I thought it was priceless. At least the look on his face was. ;D

When I was 12 someone took a chain and wrapped it through my back tire and locked it.  Couldn't ride home.  I was like 10 miles from home, too.  I still have no idea who or why as I didn't know anyone in that area.

I hoofed it holding the rear tire off the ground.    Eventually I saw a roller skate in someone's trash and put that under the rear tire to make it a little easier.   ;D

when i was in high school some smart arse once found a huge padlock and locked up my bike. i knew who it was and didnt want him to have the last laugh. so during metal-work i went out with a hack saw and cut the lock off. took less than 5 minutes. i then took it into class and chopped it up into smaller pieces and gave it back to him (",)

I remember years ago my family went on a bike ride and we didn't have anything to lock the bikes to, so we just chained them all together.  We figured it'd be too much of a hassle for anyone to steal 5 bikes chained together, but we were wrong.  Apparently a couple guys with a pick-up truck just lifted them all up and put them in the bed of the truck.  The reason we found out how they were stolen is because a few days after we reported the bikes stolen to the police, they called us and said they found our bikes and caught the guys.  The bikes were still chained together when the police gave them back to us.  I was only 8 or 9 at the time, so I don't remember how the police caught them, but it seems like it was a funny story so I think I'll ask my dad the next time I see him.

Should have taken an angle grinder to them and given them back to him in his gas tank.

But maybe I'm a bit more vindictive than most...

i like your style (",) . but a small hand full of brass and steel filings in a petrol tank wont really do much. maybe after a year or two it would half fill up his fuel filter. besides, at that stage i dont recall him having a car...

If you ground down the entire thing, it would be a lot more than a small handful.

And I'm perfectly fine with waiting a year or two for revenge to manifest...it's actually better that way, then they're usually not really sure exactly what just happened and who to blame-the uncertainty just adds an extra little twist.

I once got some band buttons stolen off a coat in high school...silly thing, really, maybe $10 worth of buttons, if that, but I knew who did it and he denied it to my face, taking it from silly high school prank to something personal. He never made the connection when he lost a side window on his car over six months later, but I certainly felt better. Ah, the glories of a mis-spent youth.

Heh.  I had a friend who did stuff like that in HS... this guy flipped us off in traffic once, so he followed the guy home and a month later stole the guy's muffler in the middle of the night.  Late model car, too, so the owner must have been all confused on that one.

Hey everybody, sing along!

(abusing the theme to 'L.O.V.E')
V is for the vice you, showed to me,
I is for that person whose, coming you will never see,
G is for the pair of, giant chips
I carry, and
Look, there's one on each of my, shoulders every one of these days, cause
Anybody who isn't me, doesn't get to live their lives free,
Never mind how trivial, the infraction just might ever be, cause
There, is no need for, me to be at all mature, when
Everyone will see that, my revenge will be so, absolutely pure,

yes, disproportional responses, are so funny from our friends,
never mind they cause a cycle, of stupidity that will never end,
so, better not cross me cause, I'll just cut you down,
then you're friends and family, I will yes take them to town, cause
being an ---uvula--- is what, life is all about,
never mind that "just ignore the fool", you parent types drone on about,
and I'm sure glad I live so far away, from the kind of fools,
who think it's funny to reciprocate, by acting like a bigger tool.

How I pine for the stories of people who come up with clever ways to hoist people on their own petard. I mean, petty thievery and vandalism are just too cool for a square like me.  :tool:

I wonder if someone is complaining about his Raleigh bike being stolen. It was parked on that spot where that mountain bike was always parked, but all of a sudden that spot was empty.

It's not something I do often, by any means, and I didn't set out six months later with the intent of getting my revenge, the situation just happened to present itself and I took it. I don't make a habit of disproportionate responses to wrongs done to me, in fact, in the vast majority of cases, I'm far more likely to move on with my life because they're not worth the effort. I've had friends offer to get back at people who screwed me over and turned them down. I've been in the position to ruin lives of people who have certainly earned it by their actions and let it go. Just every so often an opportunity, usually in some small but meaningful manner. to wrong someone who did me wrong first will pop up and I'll seize it. Does it make me a tool, I suppose that's a matter of opinion-at least personally, I don't feel badly for doing it when it does happen.

the danger is sometimes the opportunity passes if you wait too long. years ago i bought a beach buggy kit and had it shipped to me. when it arrived the bonnet (hood) was missing. the clowns at the freight company swore blind that it didnt get sent with it. evenetually the manufacturer was good enough to send me a replacement free of charge. of course the colour was slightly different because fibreglass pigment is mixed in batches and this was a metal flake finish. a month or so after i got the replacement some guy calls me from interstate to tell me his wife nearly ran off the road because of this big blue thing. how did he know to call me? the consignment note was stuck to it! the freight guys were lying all along!

my plan was to wait for a few months and then go and put glue in the locks of their freight yard. not a big revenge but it would have been nice to know they wasted their time. in the meantime of course they went bust!

something good came out of it though. when i told the guy who found the bonnet that i already had a replacement, he said cool he was going to use it for a little sand pit for his kid (",)

Ah, see, but you got your revenge-the old saying is "The best revenge is living well". You got to enjoy your buggy, some random stranger got a nice sand pit for his kid and the bastiges as the freight company got to file bankruptcy-that's far better than a bit of glue in some locks...
