Wow, pilot's license?  That's awesome!  But expensive.

However you decide to prioritize, get to it... long breaks always go by faster than you think.

It all depends on what type of CP he puts in the plane.

Cool. have fun and get things done :)

I'm sort of taking 2 weeks of right now too. I'm going to drag a few guests around through our lovely tiny country.

4 weeks off...hmmm...the last time I had 4 weeks off from work was... NEVER!  The longest vacation I ever took from work (since I started working at age 16) is 2 weeks and that was BETWEEN JOBS.  While working at the same job MAYBE 10 days is the longest...

A whole month...sheesh...what would I do with myself.

Other than being unemployed, longest I've ever had is probably about ten days.  And that's only once or twice.

From what I understand, other countries in the world think Americans are weird for ONLY taking a weeks vacation. Is this the case in Aussie land, or are you just one lucky bastid? ;)

Yeah, but keep in mind, in many of those countries they also think it reasonable to pay as much as double the taxes that we do...

I get 4 weeks per year (here in Americaland) but to take more than 2 at a time requires special permission.  I'd never get it, though.  The place would go bankrupt if I left for that long!  :D

I'm supposed to be on vacation today, but I have to go back in in an hour.   :banghead:

I'll get 12 days off in a row (counting weekends) in December. Working for a school system rocks :)

I would LOVE to be a teacher and get all that time off! Most people in the country would PAY to have that kind of time off.

Teachers work a ridiculous amount of hours for a very low salary relative to the workload.  Then they turn around and spend a good chunk of it on supplies the school won't provide.  Given all that, my wife is almost done with her state certs to become a teacher herself.

Of course, saint isn't a teacher.   :)

I was a "teacher" in the University and I would get several months in a row off during the summer season. All in all I think I only gave classes during 50% of the year. The rest of the year was for students to study for exams and take them. During the off time I would only need to check the exams they handed in, but that rarely took more than a few days. Add some prep work for classes and I estimate I was off for 5 months out of 12.

My wife's step father was a college professor. All he had to do was teach two english classes, and hold minimal office hours. In all, he was at "work" for 20 hours max on a bad week. Add to that the fact he was off for the summer, and the break between semesters. HAHA though cause now he works a 9 to 5 like everyone else.

The typical response.

I, along with most people also work a ridiculous amount of hours compared to a low salary and considering the workload. Whoop dee doo. And no teacher I've ever known spends a considerable amount of their own money on supplies.

Anyways, that'll be all on the teacher subject as this was not what the thread was about.

Do you don't know many elementary school teachers?  I do, and every one of them drops a good amount of money on supplies.  Many of them are making in the 20s or low 30s, too, which here isn't even enough to rent your own apartment.

I know quite a few elementary school teachers. My mother-in-law is an elementary school counselor, and my wife will be getting her elementary education degree in about a year. The teachers are given a $250 supply limit, and if they shop smart they can make it go a LONG way.

My wife teaches high school.  She spends pretty close to $0 per year of her own money, gets paid very well, and works shorter hours than I do at my 9 to 5 most of the time.  Oh, and she gets an entire summer off in addition to a week for thanksgiving, 3 weeks for christmas, and a week for spring break.

I used to believe that line about it being hard to be a teacher, but all the teachers I know have it pretty good.

when i first joined the work force some 18 years ago, yes it was common to get 4 weeks off. now not so common. but i figure if they value me theyll let me have it (",) the last holiday i had was for about 2 weeks. i had my own business and had to leave my sister in charge. which worked out well. shes a relief teacher and didnt have any work at that time (school holidays). the holiday before that i quite my job to go as it was 6 weeks! also, 11 years ago, i quite a job to go on a working holiday in canada. i was gone nearly 6 months.

and chad, i went for a fly for the first time in about 7 years last month. was a tad sloppy. i think adding a trackball would be an improvement for me  ;D

and shardian, yes lots of people view mercans as crazy for not getting much in the way of holidays. this is why at any time there are probably more australians on holiday in the US than vice versa. yes, we are capitalist, but we like to get out and enjoy our money. cant take it with you  :o
