How do I get rid of these lines???
« on: July 01, 2007, 11:10:36 pm »
So I have this cab that has been sitting around for a while because I have been too lazy/cheap to buy parts for it and get it up to snuff.  At any rate, the monitor displays these weird lines running in a generally horizontal manner (they are kind of diagonal) at the top of the screen.

The color seems to be affected by messing with color bias and gain controls, however I can't get them to disappear.  You'll need to click on the image to see the full sized version, but here's an image of what I'm talking about:

Have you tried reducing the G2 voltage (typically 2 knobs on flyback - 1 for screen voltage / one for focus)?  I'd think retrace lines would span the entire monitor, but it does from the picture seem to indicate that blacks aren't very black right now.

If you've got another brightness control, you could try that too.

Beat me to it...but here it is anyways.  ;)

Have you tried turning the SCREEN voltage down just a tad on the flyback transformer ?

Usually you will see those kind of lines all the way down the monitor....but it's worth a try.

And or try turning down the brightness just a bit as well.

If you have a K7000 series monitor, adjust your 50/60Hz pot.  I'm guessing that's what you've got by that picture.

I'll have to check on those things when I get home from work.

The monitor is actually a 25" Nanao monitor from what I can tell.  It is a japanese cabinet afterall.  I'll try to find more information on it.

Just found a pic on some website through some searching.  Looks like I have an MS8-26A-SU.

Currently it is hooked up to a playstion 2 via the ultimarc psx av adapter and jpac.

As far as the problem is concerned...I'm not sure how to adjust the red "background."  That said, the 6 color adjustments on the left portion of the chassis merely change the color of the lines rather than getting rid of them.

Luckily for me, a guy at work used to work on arcade machines a few years back and he basically said that it was probably the screen voltage as well.  Of course, he said that the monitor is going to be needing a cap kit and adjusting the screen voltage is just putting off the inevitable.

That said, the way this thing is mounted inside the cabinet, I'm going to have a hard time getting to that pot.  I really don't want to dismount the chassis just to get to it.  I'll find out soon enough.

do you need a schematic of it?

I needed the video amp and that was why I asked what your dong with it and how but since you have the j-pac it is not that then.

Just a few things.

If it is 25" (check the number on the back of the tube ... if it says A63, this is 63 cm converted to inches= 25" A68 is 27") - anyway 25" is MS8, 27" is MS9.

Next try the vertical hold, but in reality it is probably a small tantalum capacitor in the vertical sync circuit, this will not be one that you would replace with a cap kit.

I actually built both the MS8 and MS9 for Nanao, but have somehow lost the schematics.

If anyone has them in PDF, I could probably give you a hint on the capacitor.

Good Luck

hmm 2 months later lol

I hooked up dreamcast up to mine and got the same it is one of your v position on v hold pots on the front right side of the moniter right nder the tube.

I suppose you also get white line's all over the screen when the is on but with no video signal I still get them a little but when it is displaying turn the pots a little to get rid of the lines.
