The Other centipede CPO
« on: July 01, 2007, 05:03:58 pm »
I purchased a new (to me) Centipede on Ebay  (for $124  so you can guess what it is like)

I know where I can get this cpo:

REV B

But does anyone know where I can get this CPO?

REV A ?  ???

I have a theory:

The standard centipede cpo that everyone is used to has revB on it next to the sn. I am GUESSING that the centipede one is the revA version. I also GUESS that in the REV B version it was intended to put the button inside the first mushroom where the white explosion is - but someone forgot that the metal control panels were already drilled for the revA CPO.

I know it sounds dumb. But that little spot on the revB version that SHOULD house a button (and does not) drives me up a tree! I have almost (ALMOST) welded a patch at the original hole location and re-drilled a hole to line up with the first mushroom!

So... Does anyone know a source for an NOS or REPO revA centipede CPO?

Hey Dan,
I don't have a source for ya, but I'm 99.9% certain that's an alternate cpo made by Willis circa 1981 instead of a RevA by Atari.

I like your theory though!

Excellent!

I now know a new piece of data!  THANKS!

But does anyone know why there is a spot in the first mushroom that looks like the button should be put RIGHT THERE - and it ISN'T?

Dan

I heard somewhere that there was originally supposed to be a button there, but after testing they moved it up.  People preferred to rest their hand on the cp.

I have heard that theory as well,  but I have yet to come across a single Centipede with the button in the burst.  For my Multipede 60-in-1 I am likely going to put the Joystick in that burst.
