pins and the elements
« on: June 29, 2007, 08:09:14 pm »
OK..  I've had my pinball machine since Memorial Day weekend, and aside from a few minor things here and there, it's been working great.  For the past week we have had some lame @$$ humidity, and when I went out to play it tonight in the garage, I noticed some oddities happening:

1. the drop targets, when 1 or 2 at a time get knocked down, they reset fine- when all 3 go down, sometimes it hangs a little before they come back up

2. some goofiness happening with the electronics (sounds, etc)

3. one or 2 bulbs are sometimes coming on, sometimes not-

My garage doesn't get as hot as it does outside, but you can tell the humidity's up a little in the garage when it is outside.  Is it safe to assume that maybe the weather's doing this?  It just seems really odd that all of these things would happen after just a month of flawless play activity..

You'd be surpised at what humidity can do. Moisture can condense on circuit boards, chips, and sockets causing problems.

Commercial coin-op games, pinball machines, video games, vending machines, etc. are all designed for indoor use only in temperature/humidity controlled environments. A garage is considered "outdoor".

I would strongly suggest you either move the machine indoors or get a de-humidifier operating in that garage.

That's what I was afraid of- if you saw my garage, it's starting to look like the end scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark....
