Pokemon Battle Revolution Friend Codes
« on: June 26, 2007, 09:09:17 pm »
I don't know if there's anyone on here who's getting this game or not, but I'll throw this out just for fun...our code is:  1804 9220 4748.

So far, I'm having a blast with this one.  Ok, so Pokemon is a little childish.  The online play so far has been a blast...that was the sell for me.  I've not tried too many online partner games, except Clubhouse games with the DS...but it's even more fun with the Wii.

If this is the tip of the iceburg for online play, then we have a LOT to look forward too. The typing system in the game is EXTREMELY tedious, and I wish they'd thought about it a little more....but the 3D Pokemon, and their attacks are great...and some are wonders to behold I think (yeah Shmokes, looking at it again a bit through rose colored glasses).  Yet, it's hard to deny....when Buizel uses Surf, the whole screen  appears to be water splashed.   This is definitely a reason I bought the Wii.

Glad to hear it turned out well.
I plan on getting this one myself.
Have you traded poke'mon from the DS
to the game yet?

Can you give a quick review of game play and story please?  Have a nephew who loves pokemon, but doesn't have a wii.  He dragged me into pokemon (bought FireRed to help him get pokemon).  Thinking that he and I might play together.

Naru - yes I did.  Very simple, just followed onscreen instructions.  Didn't even need the book.

Spaz - This may be where the game falls down just a wee bit in comparison to Pokemon Stadium....I don't know, I never played it.  Basically the gameplay is just "point the pokeball at the move you want and click it,"  OR "point at the menu selection you want and click it."  Gameplay is pretty simplistic.  My 4 year old could do it.

The story (what story there is), is that you are a novice trainer heading for "Poketopia," a grand island with many colosseums via plane (the cloud effect is great, but might have helped to have seen a plane wing, etc). Once you arrive, you are greeted by the receptionist, and here you can read through the rules, set up your first custom or rental badge, friend list, etc...then head out to the colosseums and start battling.  My daughter and I bested the leader of Main Street Colosseum very quickly.

The second one, and only one of 3 I've seen so far, is my favorite, that being Waterfall Colosseum.  But like I said, past that it's pretty much point and click and watch the little 3D guys do their thing....and they DO NOT disappoint in that.  And some of them are just huggably cute.

I had to do the surf move again last night to make sure I had not imagined that bit about the water splashing the inside of the TV screen.  I had not.

WiFi play is every bit as easy as transferring Pokemon - I have not needed to crack the manual once, due to the onscreen instructions.

This is not a game that will appeal to everyone, and I realize that - but for those of you waiting for Super Smash Brothers, or any other Wii online fun, if they make them ALL this easy to get online with, you are in for one more rollicking good time.

For those that said "When is the Wii going to take off?" - I'd say, judging from future releases coming up (via net and my Power magazine for August) that you might....JUST MIGHT (don't hold me to it)....want to mark this down as the start of it.

Never played Coll, but is BatRev the same like FireRed in where you have to beat your rival?  You get to collect pokemon along the way?

Spaz - yes, the idea is to beat your opponent using your Pokemon.

In online play, when I've had my tail whipped by fellow trainers (I have YET to win a battle online), you are offered two options: 1) to battle again (both must choose yes), and 2) to exchange "friend passes" (again, both must choose yes).

The friend pass is basically a copy of that trainer's card, and this is where I'm a little disappointed with the game.  I thought it would automatically send each other's friend code as well - it apparently does not.  I've got to go back and look in the manual for this, but I was thinking that this meant you could then use their pass in your battles but at this point I see no way to "use" your friend & rival's Pokemon.

I'll check on it after breakfast and report back here.  It's still a pretty neat game overall!

Additional info:

- 2 to 4 people can battle using their DS systems as controllers while battling with their Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl.

- I stand corrected on the Friend Passes.  You cannot edit them (in other words, mix your Pokemon with theirs), BUT in Free Battle mode you can use a pass that you got from a friend battle.  Apparently that is as far as you can go though; I can't send a copy of Diagla to my DS that a friend of mine had.

- Free Battle seems to be the most interesting, though I have not tried it yet.  The other two are Lv. 30 and Lv 50 only, which means all Pokes are set at that level.  You still use all the moves they have, they are just level neutral.

- Here's something I think is a little odd.  Online play is Level 50 only....yet the Pokemon you use do not have their HP nor their powers taken away, just their level.  So if I'm playing with a Level 56 Grotle (the tree turtle), it becomes a Level 50 with 181 points and all it's powers.

- You cannot earn experience points for the DS games off of this one. You can earn coins and coupons to spend at the store in the game to equip your trainer with new outfits and your Pokemon with some of the TMs, but that's about it so far.

In retrospect, I wish I'd played Pokemon Coloseum so I could compare better for you all.  Once again, the cons are certainly there, BUT they are not strong enough to detract from the overall fun of this game: playing online, playing in 3D, watching the cool moves come to 3D life (watching Plinplup - 2nd Evolution - walk over, turn to metal (Metal Wing), and smack the dickens out of someone is great).  There is enough variation in the game to make it well worth the price, in my opinion.

Nintendo Power ranked it a 6.5.  I think it's a little better than that, I'd give it an 8 out of 10 myself.  Again, the Wifi connection being so smoothless is where it earns mega  points with me.  There's just no hassle in getting online and battling at all.
Likewise with the DS connection - it worked flawlessly for me and did not require any reading of the book to accomplish.

CAUTION - Be careful when saving / forgetting to save.  I accidentally lost 2 friend passes between last night and this morning and am not sure how / why it happened.

Poke'mon Colosseum added town traveling and a story
similar to the gameboy/gameboy advance series of Poke'mon.
You would capture Poke'mon that were tainted with evil. Then
they would become good while you used them.

This game harkens back to Poke'mon Stadium on the N64.
Man that was a tough game for me to beat. I still need to
get Stadium 2.

Hopefully I can get this game soon and battle you RTSDaddy2.
You'll have no trouble beating me.

I'll be looking forward to it Naru, but don't hand me a victory that easy - I think I'm something like 3 - 5 in online battles so far.

Another very cool feature (no pun intended) for those of you familiar with this.  The little snow creature has a move that causes it to hail throughout the arena.  What I noticed yesterday was that as it hails, frost forms on the inside of your TV, making patterns similar to that on our windows during winter storms.  It is both impressive and beautiful at the same time (at least it did this at the Waterfall Colosseum).

Don't mean to keep on and on and on about it...but as I said earlier, the first of the best for the Wii may have finally arrived.
