Getting hiscore.diff compiled into MAME... help!
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:26:29 pm »
OK, this thread is hopefully going to get me from where I am now to where I want to be.  My goal is for the computer to boot straight to MaLa and run vertical games only with the ability to save high scores.  Not too terrible, right?

So far I've figured out how to get XP up and running.  It's the only thing on my computer at the moment.

First up:  I need to figure out how to compile MAME so I can save high scores but believe it or not, I can't seem to follow the instructions on Mr. Do!'s Arcade Page.

1.  I downloaded mame0116s, dx80_mgw.zip, mingw-mame-20070717, compile_extras.zip and hi112u1.txt
2.  I extracted dx80_mgw.zip and mingw-mame-20070717 to c:\mingw
3.  I extracted the mame.zip file inside the mame0116s file to c:\mamesrc
4.  I extracted compile_extras.zip to c:\mamesrc
5.  I put the hi112u1 file in the c:\mamesrc folder
6.  I edited the patchmame.bat file replacing the default 0104u1.diff with hi112u1.txt
7.  I clicked in the command prompt shortcut and typed "patchmame" but I get a failure message

What am I doing wrong?

OK, maybe I'm not using the correct hiscore with the correct version of MAME.  Can someone tell me if the files I've chosen are compatible?

Try just doing a straight compile without the patches, to verify you have the compile environment set up correctly.

Then try to give us an idea what the error message is.

I see one thing that jumps out...
scroll down 1 post in the hiscore thread and get the hi_114 file. The hi_112u1 file won't work for MAME 116.

I think that did it.  Everything seemed to work except there were more than 4 new files from compiling - I just copied them all to the MAME folder... I'm burning a disc right now with everything on it and I'm taking it to the MAME computer to install... I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
