dimensions for billabs' BL27CB0P - can someone provide?
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:01:37 pm »
Howdy all...

I know there are a few of you out there who love your billabs penta-res 27" monitor... I am trying to design a cocktail around it so I need some measurements.  Outer dimensions of the mounting bracket, how far out the screen sticks (above the bracket when mounted in cocktail config.), how far down from the bracket the back hangs, width/depth of the back, etc.

If someone has sketched this up already that would be great...

Thanks,
MRH

Well I am on vacation right now but my cocktail has this monitor in it.  I can't tell you everything right now but I can tell you that I mounted it to a 1" piece of plywood and cut a another piece of 1" plywood to get the correct spacing.  So I have a total of two inches of wood and the glass is right on top of it and does not touch the monitor, very close though.

I found my manual and it has the dimensions but they are in mm.  If you still want them I will scan it and post the image.

Does the Happs 27" bezel work with this monitor?  If not, squirrellydw - what did you use as a bezel for your cabinet?  Also, do you still recommend it?

THANKS!!

OK, I think I'm going to bite on this monitor... anyone know the cheapest place where I can get one?

I don't doubt that there are probably some disitrubutors out there, but they probably charge more than buying direct. I was just in contact with Billabs, and the BL27CB0P was going for $549 usd. If you don't need a quad-sync monitor, you can step down to the BL27C90T tri-sync which goes for $360 usd.

What's the difference?  I don't know much about monitors and I'm just looking for something that is "plug and play" for the most part.  I have a Happs Vision Pro 19" VGA/SVGA Monitor in my cocktail cabinet that I'm quite happy with...  I just connected it to the computer like a regular monitor and I was good to go other than having to tweak a few games that weren't outputting at the right freqency...

Thanks!

They're virtually the same, but the quad-sync can handle the 1024 x 768 or higher resolutions. The tri-sync's max res is 800 x 600. If you only plan to play arcade games in your machine and not turn it into a full-use PC or media centre, the tri-sync would work just fine.

Oh, and add $40 onto the prices I quoted before. For whatever reason, the prices originally quoted to me were the discounted prices if you buy 3 or more monitors. Billabs was good about getting back to me though to correct their misquote and get approval of the higher price before actually processing my order. Don't let their shoddy website put you off on them. They have decent customer service and they've been really good with questions I've had for them.

Thanks.  I plan on using the monitor for MAME mostly but I would like the option for Daphne, Virtual Pinball, NES/SNES and possibly loading up some versions of You Don't Know Jack for some trivia...

Ummm... on the BL27CB0P:  The P on the end means "penta"... as in 5.  There are 5 resolutions this monitor will sync with:

CGA - 320 x 200
EGA - 640 x 350
VGA - 640 X 480
SVGA - 800 X 600
XGA - 1024 X 768

(resolutions examples from http://www.i386.info/vidres.htm and
http://searchsmb.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid44_gci211966,00.html)

I believe this nomenclature would mean T on the end of BL27C90T would be a 3-resolution monitor.  On Billabs' website, they state the BL27C90T is capable of CGA/EGA/VGA resolutions.  Some other -T suffix monitors also handle 3 resolutions but they are VGA/SVGA/XGA.

You're right! I've been doing so much research to find a monitor I'm getting all my model numbers and associated resolutions mixed up.

Thanks for all the info.  Looks like I'll be better off going with the "P" monitor so I won't have to worry about running anything in it's native resolution...  it's pretty expensive though.  :'(

but it is oh so SWEEET.  I have been playing with it in advancemame and so far - EVERYTHING (except vector games of course) works in its original video mode!

mine was in the 600s, I had mine shipped to my dads office to save on shipping.  You will not be disappointed.  Save up the money and buy one that you like, no point in buying one that you won't be happy with.

So how much was it shipped to your door?  I'm almost afraid to ask...

I went to Mountain Coin (a Billabs Distributor) in Denver and bought it there.  It was $579 plus tax (and a $10 fee for using the credit card - not sure if that's kosher with visa/mc) came to $602 and change.  Shipping was via the backseat of the car ( a tight fit ) .

Nice thing having them local.  They did say the techs like these monitors... no complaints yet.
