We have a family laptop that fairly fast. The only problem is it has crappy graphics card soldered into the mother board. Is there any kind of external pci slot or graphics card?

Here's a link with some info about doing multi-mon on laptops, which also have some PCMCIA video boards. USB Video also exists (but I don't see how it could be speedy)

There is a company that makes a pcmcia bridge out to a PCI slot, but it's very $$$ as in you might as well by a new computer rather than go that route.
