Mortal Kombat Armageddon problems with arcade-saving and progressive

I have two questions and I would greatly appreciate anyone that can accurately fix these problems.

The first is I cannot seem to save the player 2 configurations using profile or not!!

I put in config, say save to profile and the idiotic thing still doesn't save.   How can I do this??

Also, is there a shortcut to progressive scan??  The usual one doesn't seem to work, and it is a pain to blind select on an PC Monitor!!!     At the very least, why doesn't progressive save to a profile??    I just don't understand why either of these issues exist when in older consoles like the Dreamcast it was a non-issue.
