I came across a hack for the PS3 sixaxis controller so it can be used on the PC, does anyone know if the tilt functions can be used?

http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/12

If so I'm wondering if it could be another possible alternative for the starwars Yoke (doesn't it have trigger buttons at the front)?

Any thoughts?

It would be a horrible idea for a yoke replacement.  See the thing is, the wiimote is shaped like a stick, It has true six axis ability because you can comfortablely tilt it any which way.  The ps3 controller is  designed to be held in only one way, it's a cheap knock-off.

Long story short is, tilting left and right can be done fairly easily with a ps3 controller, up and down, not so much.  I mean you can do it, but it isn't comfortable.

If you look in the software forum, I wrote a script to use the wiimote in star wars, that'd be your best bet.

Hi Howard - I have a link to your script on my favourites, but I don't own a wii, so would have to buy one specially for the job, so I'm dying for some wii owners to give some positive feedback so I can justify buying a remote :hissy:

Many thanks and best regards

Joe

P.S.  If I remember rightly you said you were still learning the glovepie script and that it was your first attempt - is there an updated script for Starwars, or is it the same as the one posted in your original link?

Well no offense but I sure as hell hope you didn't buy a ps3 instead of a wii.  Good luck with all those games that you don't have to play. :P   I mean seriously, even if you wanted a hi-res box as well the 360 is loads cheaper, has virtually the same game library, a superior online system and xbox arcade!  I don't see any possible reason for anyone to own a ps3.  Maybe when mgs4 comes out, but right now it's a doorstop.

Ranting aside, the wii is still in such short supply that you aren't going to get any feedback on my script because the people that actually have a wii, have a bluetooth dongle for their pc, are interested in mame cabs, are interested in star wars, actually saw that thread, aren't afraid of words like "script" and have the time to do this narrows down to about 3 guys.  ;) All I can tell you is it works well and a wiimote costs about the same as a wireless ps3 controller, except the wiimote can do a lot more due to the better design, add-on port, rumble pack, leds and speaker.

No unfortunately the script hasn't been messed with any because it already works really well (a glovepie update fixed the bad centering) and I'm currently building a real star wars yoke.  :)

Bah!  :hissy:

You've done it - you've gone and talked me into it.  I've gone and bought a wii remote and I don't even own a wii !!!! - And NOW I need to buy a bluetooth dongle just to be able to use it :dizzy: Is there one you can recommend?  :-\

I WAS going to wait for Fusion to pull their finger out, but it just don't seem to be happening ATM http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/740/740679p1.html

Still, it will be worth it if it brings me one step closer to the true Star Wars experience :)

As for the PS3 - rest assured I have not bought one.  Heck, the last console I bought was a Dreamcast, and I only bought that for House of the Dead II (which is great fun on your own in 2 player mode with a gun in each hand BTW).  I just seem to be too old for games these days that don't have any nostalgia value  ;D

That said, the wii could still tempt me with the right game e.g. the starwars lightsaber game that keeps getting mentioned could indeed be a good enough novelty to drag me away from my myriad of other hobbies.

As for my wiiyoke I think I will have to do a custom sleeve/skin with the approprite arcade yoke decals - another kit for my site methinks http://www.bazookajo.me.uk/.

Many thanks and best regards.

Joe.
