Split screen issue and Arcade O/S question.. - FIXED
« on: June 12, 2007, 04:35:05 pm »
Hi all.

Ok so Ive recently installed a J-Pac into an old 2 player arcade cabinet I got my hands on.

Im running a PC with Windows XP Pro and Geforce 4 video card, with Powerstrip.

At this point Ive figured out how to set Powerstrip to run in Arcade mode at 15khz.

When I plug in to the Arcade VGA in the cabinet I can see the windows desktop well enough, although it is quite blurry i can move around.

I activate MAME, and it looks fine, HOWEVER as soon as I activate a MAME rom it loads into a split screen.. It seems odd to me that it works fine in Windows desktop and MAME interface, but then splits when the ROM loads. I can move alright as far as controls go and what not, but its split in two so its unplayable.

Ive tried loading with the JPAC 31KHZ jumper removed and I get a garbled screen.

SHould I dump XP and try Arcade O/S or am I facing a different issue?

Also can anyone tell me how to test my coin box to see what voltage its putting out (Jpac warns that 12 volt box will fry my Jpac.. currently its disabled for this reason.. )

Thanks in advance! Hopefully Ive figured this out by the time I get an answer  8)

Your images splits because you're not in a 15KHz mode when this happens.  Not sure why it's happening.

Post your mame.ini file here.

Also, ArcadeOS isn't an OS, it's a DOS frontend.  You'll have to run DOS to use it.

Well,, actualy, I feel like a dummass because all i did was go into the ROM properties and re adjust the res down to 600x400 and it fixed it ( Strider is my test ROM )

So the split issue is now a non issue.  :D

Im so used to running MAME roms on my regular PC and monitor that Id forgotten that properties section even existed.

 :D

Is there a way to make my windows desktop slightly less blurry so I can actually read my MAME interface?

Lower your resolution.

See the Soft15KHz for a program called 'quickres' that can help.
