constructing a cheap interview set , any ideas?
« on: June 10, 2007, 02:59:00 pm »
We'd like to work on constructing a cheap interview set, or pretty much two 4x8' backdrop walls with casters to move them about. Does anyone know of any plans to design such a set?

If you're into wrestling or remember the good days, think something on the lines of a Piper's Pit set , or something similar. Nothing to grandiose, but also not something that will topple over on our heads.

Thanks.

Why would you need plans?  You just said, you want a 4x8 set, so no cutting is necessary.  Take a piece of plywood, screw some 2x4's to it at a 45 degree angle in th back to hold it up and you are done!

I'm just afraid without any solid base , the wall might tip over or be a little unsteady. As for the wall itself , you're correct. It's pretty much complete , I'm just lost on the base.

Not to mention , it has to roll.

It's just common sense man..... attach your 45 braces high up... like middle ways or higher.  That'll keep it from tipping backwards.  You hang weight from the braces so it can't tip forwards.  I don't think wheels are anything to sweat over either... you just screw em to the bottom.

Built it so it looks like an upside-down T from the side.  Like this:

        11
        11
        11
        11
        11
        11
  22222222
  oo        oo

The 1's being the wall, the 2's being hortizontal 2x4s, the oo's being the casters.

That's how we built them for plays in high school.

That's the idea. Exactly how I pictured it.

(Howard) As for being common sense. Sometimes people just draw a blank when it comes to design. I had some general ideas , but I just couldn't figure out the better of them. Pinballjim's example is something we were actually messing with on the drawing board prior to my posting. All & all , this is probably the best way to go about my design.

Thanks a bunch for clearing my head of shoddy ideas and giving me something to work with.
