I was actually hesitant to go this route too, but further research has pointed me in the direction that the sound on the system 9 boards actually pukes pretty regularly- so, at this point I don't think I have much other alternative.

I ordered the replacement board today from this site, should be here this week.  Will provide updates when it's in.

First off - if you think they are all BRAND NEW boards.... you may be in for a dissapointment.
"tested" and "working" maybe.... but NEW.... I doubt it.

You guys really blow me away, I hate to say it (pointing mainly to Kevin and Peale).  I have asked and asked and asked and provided as much info as possible on all my findings, and in most cases only a couple folks (ChadTower and PinballJim come to mind) kept coming back and providing feedback to my updates- and now I feel I've exhausted all my possibilities and made the best decision possible, and you guys want to come out of the woodwork now and critique the prices of what I have to buy and tell me otherwise.  I really don't understand.

The board, yes, is "used" but it is also "reconditioned" and the company has assured me anything they saw that looked tired and ready to go was replaced.  And yes, you're right- they are NOT new boards (I misunderstood the listing in my initial posting on the site referred to in the title).  At any rate, there were only 3700 of my pin produced, and another person wanted $225 for a replacement PCB for my pin that wasn't even from an original SORCERER machine, and on top of that they wanted my CURRENT board in trade.  I'm not knocking that individual AT ALL when I mention the price they quoted- I'm simply using that info to show that the replacement boards for this pin are not cheap..  The $280 also includes the speech card as well, so I thought it was the best choice considering my situation.  I'm definitely not made of money, but I want this machine to run right- and after doing as much troubleshooting as I have and getting suggestions from limited respondees, I think my choice was the best one.

Sorry if I sound bitter, but I hate when people like to close the gate after the horses have gone..  My apologies if I misunderstood anyone's comments.

Edit: sorry I snapped about this; I know that both of you have been very helpful with other questions I've asked on gaming overall-  I was just pretty upset when I saw some of the comments made last night.  I really am trying to get up to speed on all the intricacies of these games, and I AM learning very rapidly (which is a shock even to ME!).  And I know you guys are flying blind trying to lend a hand here-

Hey, all I was saying instead of throwing money at an entire replacement unit you try and figure out exactly what's going on.  You've only had this a very short time, and it's not as though this is a street unit you have to get repaired ASAP to get it making money again.

As for crawling out of the woodwork, I read every post you make on this matter because it interests me.  I know what I would do to test/fix the unit, but it's difficult to put into descriptive words because others have pretty much said the same things I would have said already.  You, yourself have claimed n00b status with electronic components and how to test them.  I had to learn everything I know now the hard way, without just throwing money at it.

*shrug* I'm done here, I wish you well.  It's your money.

The bad news is that the seller, while a nice guy, doesn't always do his own board work on these and charges a lot because he pays someone else to do it.  The good news is that I know the guy who did these boards for him and he does a good job.  So, while it can be argued that you overpaid, you're going to get a good board out of it.  And really, if you're happy with what you've paid and what you get out it, then that's the only opinion that matters.

Thanks CN, I appreciate the details-  Like I said, I actually wasn't expecting to put that kind of cash out right now, but after hearing the prices on what it was going to cost to repair my current board, and the problems the repairer could potentially run into, it sounded like the best way to go.

My biggest goal is to have it working properly for my child's bday party in July, so if I get everything knocked out now, I'll be very happy.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I was VERY happy with my purchase from this site.  The shipping was FAST, the PCB was WELL-PACKED, and when I took it out it looked like a brand new board (especially compared to the one I had before).

I know someone else mentioned that the person has another individual do their repair work for them- all I can say is whoever they have do it does good work.

I was very happy with the purchase.  FYI.

Plus you can take your leisure to further test and repair your old board as you learn more about electronics troubleshooting and have it as a backup.
