Monitor res (using AVGA) not matching Mame res
« on: June 01, 2007, 03:57:25 pm »
This is probly just a hardware issue, but thought I'd post here to see if someone who knows about resolutions and video drivers might have an answer:

I have a Billabs 27" pentamode and an AVGA. When I use the following Mame resolutions in Mame: 256x240 (for 256x224 games), 352x256 (for 256x240 games - 256x240 zooms the image way up close with loss off the screen), and 336x240 (for indytemp) - my Billabs will default to 620x244. The problem is each res needs different geometry settings. Is this a monitor issue, strictly?

Hi shorthair

I read on the Ultimarc site about a tool that scans your romset and will automatically populate your mame.xml file with the correct resolution to display that game.

Have you tried this, because it may be the solution to your problem. MAME wouldn't default to some weird res for a game, as you would have told it the best one to pick.

I haven't done this with my setup yet, only because I havent had an opportunity to touch the PC since I got the display going, but I am planning on doing this...

Someone asked that question yesterday in the version I put up on the main board (which is now on the monitor/video board...perhaps near its brother I'd put up there). Answer is yes. And I've found it doesn't always pick the best one, at least not for this monitor, but I answered that in the other one. Thanks, though.
