Does anyone know the pot value of the Xbox analog sticks?
« on: June 02, 2007, 09:50:16 am »
Ive got a few projects I'm mulling over and can't seem to find the potentiometer values anywhere.  I haven't had time to open up one of my pads, but I'm not even sure if they're labeled.

All the xbox wheels use 5k pots... it's a safe bet that the analog sticks are 5 k as well.

Thanks!

EDIT:

I know that most wheels allow for something around 200-270 degrees of motion on the wheel itself.  The sticks don't move that much.  I'm sure that they're using gears or pulleys to compensate for the difference.  If I ever mess with wheels, I'll just have to get the ratio figured out before I go gear shopping.

Ok, someone needs to change the title of this thread.  I was thinking something *totally* different then the previous posters.

The stick pots would definitely be different, particularly since there would be more than one of them, I'd assume.  A wheel would only need one, I think, unless you're talking about analog sticks on the wheel housing or something.

How do you get that?  A wheel moves from full left to full right as far as the game console is concerned.  This 270 degree thing has nothing to do with it since when the wheel is as far as it'll go to the left, then it's the same as pressing the analog stick as far as it'll go to the left.  The wheels I have all use 5k pots on the wheel so it's a safe bet.  Pedals would use the same btw, they just use resistors to "cut-off" the top or bottom halves respectively.

Left to right is only one axis.  A stick has two, usually one pot for each axis.
