Cab finished, PICS!!
« on: April 18, 2003, 06:36:32 am »
Hey all, I finally got a digi cam and was able to take some pics of my cab. I actually finished it about 2 or 3 months ago. I'm still adding side-art, but since it's so large and expensive I'm willing to take a long time designing it to make sure I won't regret something about it. :) I distorted the image around the cab cuz I didn't want anyone to see all the crap in my room. :) Check it yo!

I added some NES and Genesis games to the list following all of the Mame games.

Last one is my 2 Twin-type virtua racings, fully restored and pimped out :D

That control panel overlay is awesome looking. Is it real CPO material like on a regular game? I myself prefer 19" cabinets, but I must admit that yours looks great.

It is also nice to see another Mamehead who owns real games too!

The 3 buttons are Pause, Reset, and Exit. I'm working on some instruction artwork to go on the bezel that will show what all of the buttons do so I can stop having to explain to friends that come over :)

EDIT:

By the way, the coindoor is colorful like that because each Coin slot represents what player it belongs to. The color scheme of the CPO is Blue-player1, Red-player2, Yellow-player3, Green-player4.

Also, how much did those two big space eaters set you back? I can't imagine that they were cheap?

Or maybe they were cheap, sometimes the big stuff goes for real cheap at the auctions. Just depends on who is buying at the time.

Arcade stuff is just so addicting. I have a terrible time parting with anything. I have like 14 games now spread out amongst 4 locations, and I don't even like some of them, but I can't seem to give them up.

haha so true. I have about 18 real arcades including a fully restored TMNT 2:Turtles In Time cab I'm working on. I got the virtua racings fairly cheap at an auction because 1) They were close to the end of the auction so everyone ran out of money by then (except me :D) and 2)They were sold as "Non-working" only because the seats were disconnected from the cabinet on them so no one knew they actually just needed to be plugged in.

18 that is great!

Right now I am constantly argueing with myself over what to keep. At the end of the year I am moving, and that is when I have to collect all my games from their various locations (friends houses mostly). They just aren't all going to fit in one apartment.

So I keep coming up with crazy ideas. Like "The dart machine can go BEHIND the couch, because you really don't need access to the bottom half of it" and "That Time Pilot cocktail adjusts up to kitchen table height, so I don't need a kitchen table!".

It is this fine line. Like do I just get an apartment with an extra bedroom, so I can fit everything? But even then they still won't all fit in one room.

Ok, I guess I am going to have to take a picture of my current bedroom. The bed is up on a riser with Jack the Giantkiller and Time Pilot cocktails underneath it.  :D

That is one of the main things that is going to have to change when I move. No games in the bedroom anymore.

I'm not a huge Capcom kinda guy, that's a VERY cool marquee.  I like the "MAME" lettering you used a lot...it fits the theme of your cabinet very well.

Wow thats fantastic! Great job!

Mine is about the same size and desing as yours. The only thing that keeps mine from looking that nice is I haven't gotten any good artwork yet. Could you tell us where you got the control panel artwork and other artwork from?

How much does it cost to get that stuff printed up?

Did you find that blue background?same one?
Is this a convertered Gauntlet Legends metal cabinet?
Or complete from scratch?I dont get the coin door part  ???.
Its metal?
How did you do it???  ???  ???

The maruqee I got from phatompower which he let me use a while back, then I changed it around a bit. :D Gregory McGill printed the marquee (the same guy who was accused of jacking 4k from someone the other day on this board) on a reversed plexi glass material like SNAAAAAKE said. I designed the CPO and had that printed at Kinkos on vinyl. The monitor is a RCA 25" S-Video TV, and I built the cab from scratch with my own design, but I used a "War: Assault" cab design just for size reference.

The reject button assemblies can easily be taken out and changed, and I bought the colored ones from Happs to match up with the player colors on the CP.

True, it's Emuloader, and it supports any Emulator out there. You just have to add each game individually. Me and joeblade are trying to get his program working so Escape key can be pressed to exit the console games. After that it's all good :)

How wide is the joystick platform area? I'd like to have 4 sticks on mine if it doesn't take up too much room.

Thanks, good luck on your cab :D If I remember right the control panel is about 38 inches wide by 16 1/2 inches long. I even have room in the middle for a trackball or spinner if I ever wanted.(not both though)

Thanks for the comments guys.

The marquee was printed by a guy named Gregory McGill, I think his website is www.arcadeshopper.com.

Hey Wade I signed your guestbook, awesome site man :) Email me sometime.

I pretty much made the plans up myself, but I used a lot of reference from a game called "War: Final Assault" http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=W&game_id=10402
Then I used the same idea for the rounded front as Gaunlet Legends/Dark Legacy.

I originally meant to use wood for the curves, but couldn't find any locally that had that size diameter. So I went with a large PVC (sp?) pipe and cut it 1/4, then secured the pieces into the corners flush with the wood. I wanted the blue front to look as plastic as possible, so I used a super gloss paint (it's been so long, I forgot the brand) and a sponge roller with a desired result :)
