Vertical line only on Vertical Monitor
« on: May 27, 2007, 07:26:18 pm »
I have an electrohome G07 with a vertical line while running a 1981 original dedicated centipede upright.. Any ideas what this could be.. I have replaced about half of the caps so far.  BTW, this is the same machine I was trying to get working with a different monitor to no avail yet.  This Electrohome(this thread) is the monitor that came with the machine which I was hoping to avoid The other monitor thread is:

Just for reference - you have "vertical collapse".
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

I thought that it if one took the trouble of re-capping, they'd do it all the way before powering and testing. Especially as the kit is cheap.

The width coil is shown clearly (and it's even circled) in the photo at the link I provided in the previous post.

Oh, the other poster was talking about an Electrohome monitor so I assumed you also had one.

I have no information on the one you mention. However, width coils are always on the main circuit board.

grabby,  ur monitor a has loss of vert  ( per 2nd pic,  the tube is mounted on its side )
the width coil is NOT the issue.  the yellow and green yoke connections are for vert , w/no schematic this can be traced back to the output stage .
once there, check all 'lytic caps . if uses an output ic , check for poor solder connections on the chip.
if transistor output , check the semiconductors and especially the resistors on supply side of stage  (looking for open resistors there)  and don't forget to check the vsize pot .

have a model # for the monitor ?

Well, I made some progress with the issue after revisiting it.  I found a broken winding on the yoke.  I tried to jumper it with plain old insulated wire which produced a total garbage screen.

Today, I swapped a yoke from an old/working electrohome with bad burnin.   I am now getting the attached image.   The centipede image appears squished vertically and uncentered.  I tried adjusting via vlin, vheight..even tried the width coil for poops and giggles..no luck..  any ideas?

definitely progress  !   ;D

If you are not getting any response from the hrz / vrt size controls, usually this indicates a cap problem OR at worst a Vertical deflection IC replacement is needed.

Ill wait for the BIG boys to chime in and confirm...  But at least you have an image now...  congrats !    :applaud:

VHold just makes it roll... I do get a response from VLin and Vheight but it stretched the image within the same confined area. Its as if  a viewable portion of the screen is missing..

yes..both G07-CBO... One was originally running a centipede. and the other once ran a pole position..

I'd also guess caps.  Change the rest of them.
