Is there a way to get rid of the OK screen on mame?
« on: May 25, 2007, 05:21:48 pm »
I thought there was a post a while ago about this, anyway, I am working on a bartop, and I would rather not have the keyboard attached to the Ipac. But there doesnt seem to be a way to configure the O and K button for that screen.

is there a way to just remove it from coming up?

Wiggle joystick back and forth.  Or remap any two buttons/directions/ect to UI_Left and UI_Right, respectively.  No need for "o" and "k" (it even says the first method on the okay screen now).

Or create a cfg file for each of the games you want to play (and play only games that are fully emulated in mame).  Easiest way to make a cfg file is to play the game once.  No need for editing and recompiling the source, and you still don't need to OK or wiggle once you've finished.

Or search this forum for OK wiggle joystick and you'll get a lot of threads.

But seriously,

This is all in good fun

It is a perfectly reasonable question to ask if you need dedicated O and K button on your cab. I 'spose all new builders wonder that until they stumble upon the correct instructions.

MAME screen did not specify that you can move the joystick left/right to clear the OK screen until recent versions. See attached image of 0.36 and 1.09 screens.

If you want to look smart - read the FAQ in every forum, no matter what message board you're on. Then you can pick on n00bs too :)

Cheers,
Craig

Umm... Where is the any key again?

PC-Museum hasa a few real world examples[/url]. I don't think anyone uses them anymore though.

I'm told German keyboards also sport a bastard F0 key, though I've never seen one (I have, however, encountered code from a german developer who used the F0 key, bleh).

OK, I'm a complete freaking idiot I guess, because I can't get rid of the OK by wiggling the stick. Do I need to rewire?

Looking for a cheap/free cab in Mich. Please help.

Are you moving "Player1" joystick left/right?
Are you sure "Player1-Left" joystick is mapped to "UI_Left"?
Are you sure "Player1-Right" joystick is mapped to "UI_Right"?

If you have lots of free time on your hands, you can create custom .cfg files for every game.  I found all my neo-geo games which I made config files by hand before ever playing them would not show the ok screen.

If you don't know where that is, open a game, hit tab, map specific controls to that particular game, you don't really have to map anything just have a config file for specific games, and save.  Now check in your mame/cfg folder to see the one for the game you just played.  It will look something like this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- This file is autogenerated; comments and unknown tags will be stripped -->
<mameconfig version="10">
    <system name="gtg2t">
        <input>
        </input>
    </system>
</mameconfig>

If you are patient, you can do this for every game you want to play.  :banghead:  I wouldn't recommend this though since wiggling the joystick is easy.  I had to make them anyways to setup trackball games and neogeo games.

Map, in "Input (general)", the stick(s) or buttons you want to wiggle or press to "UI Left" and "UI Right".

I don't know about "UI left" and UI right. I hooked the stick to a Keywiz U1, D1, etc.
