New XBOX 360 console w/ old hard drive?

Just got the dreaded "red ring of death" on my 360.  My question is:  Can I use my original hard drive and just replace the console?

Yep, you can, but then that "dreaded" ring of death is now a simple $10 fix, so you might want to do that instead.

I performed that x-clamp replacement to my "dead" 360, and it has been running good as new ever since.

I'm one of those suckers that bought the extended warranty so I'm just going to take it to BB and get a new one, sans hard drive.

well at least you can justify the purchase of the warranty now. Ive heard of people who got the extended warranty from M$, sent in their 360s without a HD, and got them back with a HD, heh

But yes , as stated, you can use your old HD on the new console with no problem at all.

As you both stated, there was no problem moving the drive from one console to the other.   I kept the original drive and BB removed the new drive from the box.  The warranty is still valid for one more year *and* I have the option of trading it in for an Elite model if I have to use it.

You will have DRM issues until they make a fix.  If you bought any arcade games you will only be able to play them while hooked up to the internet and logged in.  Once you loose internet connection (say you take your 360 to a friends house) the will revert back to trials.

yea this part sucks. I cant play robotron offline as full version. I know alot of folks that had the consoles repaired are p.o.'d and im one of them. Sure hope microsoft does address this in the near future. The good thing about buying my warranty from microshaft themselves is my warranty reset and im covered til 2009, if it pukes by then, hopfeully ill get an upgrade to an elite  (yeaaaaaaaaah right!).

This happened to me but thought that I just hadn't noticed it before.

I didn't have to buy a new warranty as BB allowsyou to exchange an unlimited amount of times during the mfgr's warranty period (which I made by two days). After that, it's a one time deal.

I gotta say my experience personally with microsoft has been excellent so far. They were fast with the exchange and i had a box back to me in about a weeks time. They even threw in a 1 month gold card, which I think is pretty standard. It makes up for your lost time paid for with your current subscription. The only complaint I had and its a minor one, was that the 360 felt sticky all over and had black smears. Nothing that i couldnt remedy though. Hopin to see some coop MetalGear arcade action soon

Some people have been successful in getting points refunded to re-buy the arcade games.  Not a lot of people though.
