Monitor for MAME Cocktail
« on: May 23, 2007, 11:53:00 pm »
I'm thinking pretty seriously about building a MAME cocktail cabinet.  What I want to know is what type of monitor any of you might recommend.

I'd really like the video on my machine to be as authentic looking as possible.  I'm thinking a 19'' would be the right size for my project and I have been eying the Vision Pro VGA/SVGA monitor from Happs.  This one is appealing to me because it will require, as far as I can tell, very little video configuration.  Just plug and play....   How does this monitor compare to the CGA ones available from Happs and others?

I've got a 21'' sony trinitron monitor sitting in my room right now that I could use but from what I understand the picture will be no where near as authentic as from a true arcade monitor.

I'd like my setup to be able to play games up to the mid 80's...

So your thoughts...  I'm new to the forum so hello!

You want authentic, go authentic. Lots of good deals out there, some on ebay, even.

Thanks but that doesn't really answer my question.  Please take a look at what I'm asking again.

Sure I did. Authentic is not a TV. If you haven't, check out the wiki. There are monitor deals on ebay.

the only way to get an authentic look is to have an arcade monitor in there. If money is a concern this is the wrong hobby for you :p   run MAME on your PC with that monitor..... did it look authentic enough for you? if yes, use it. if it not then look at your budget and figure out what you can afford
