Funny baby story
« on: May 18, 2007, 11:12:37 am »
My little girl is 3-1/2 months old now and she apparently discovered the tv last Sunday. I sat down with her in the living room and flipped thru the channels while waiting for the wife to take a bath, etc. Anyways, Shrek was on and I decided to watch that. After a few minutes, I realized Elizabeth was watching the tv. I thought, "well isn't that cute". So we sat there and watched Shrek together.
Anyways, every night we watch an episode of 24 -  We are about halfway thru season two. I was holding Elizabeth again with her sitting on my lap. Michelle looked over and realized that Elizabeth was watching the tv. We debated whether she should be seeing a show like 24. I figure all she sees is colors anyways, but I went ahead and flipped her around to face me. Elizabeth started throwing a fit trying to twist back around. I turned her around and she sat back down and went to watching the tv again. I did the flip her around thing several times just to see what she'd do. She honest to goodness got pissed when I wouldn't let her watch tv!  :laugh2:

Now I realize that the TV thing would be an issue when they get to be toddlers, but this is just ridiculous. So does anyone else have a funny baby/toddler story dealing with the boob tube?

No funny stories here, but you should know that the TV will be your friend in the future.

My girl is thirteen weeks and she's mesmerized by light, so she can look at me surfing this site, for example, for at least a little while.

As for yours, Shardian, just tell her to ignore the commercials and she'll be fine.   :)

All of my shows are dvd's, or downloaded the day after they run for new shows. No commercials here, so I guess I'm good to go...well except for those pesky product placements. ;D

Does TIVO have a way to get rid of commercials, or do you still have to fast forward?

Straight default config, you have to FF.  It's not hard to change a remote button definition to 30 second skip, though.  Once you get good with the default remote operation it's practically the same thing, you get a real feel for how to FF the commercials in about 4 seconds.

The reason I ask is because when I download Lost, it is usually uploaded to the net from a HD broadcast, the commercials are edited out perfectly (and I mean perfectly), and it is all up on the net within minutes? I figured there must be some ID tag to differentiate between the show and the commercials...or the guys who make the online copies are just that badass and quick. ;D

There often is but commercial DVRs like Tivo aren't allowed to use it.  I do have a dual deck VCR that has a function that will record a show on one deck, and then when it's done, copy it onto the second deck minus commercials, based on some type of "standard blank signal in most regular television shows that indicate start and end of commercials".

Nothing really to add except been there, done that, got the T-shirt (and the baby) to prove it.

Ours loved to watch Wheel of Fortune when just about that age.  We let her - figured what the hey, it at LEAST appeals to the intellect a little bit!

cant particularly tell you when nia, whos 3and a bit years now, got into tv, but i tend to call her maggie simpson now as much as nia, shes impossible when a cartoon is on. she loves asterix the gaul cartoons at the moment, i was watching with her the other day and Ceaser was in it , i said 'look nia theres ceaser' and she turned to me and said  'yeah julius ceaser', i just shut up now and let her carry on. shardian that is gonna blow your mind , when your two year old is talking down to you and telling you to go to your room because youve been naughty! you will not have an answer for her that she wont wipe the floor with by the time shes three.enjoy
what you said about wether she should watch it, youre right to be concerned a bit, i never thought a child would be so perceptive so young. i think when nia was 1 and a bit , live 8 was on, they played footage you may be familiar with of people suffering in africa, its sort of famous footage as in the original live aid it was shown with the song ,whos gonna drive you home by the cars ,to great effect, its harrowing to watch, i couldnt watch again as i remember it vividly from 20 years ago. there is a particular bit in it where a baby cries out and i have a lump in my throat thinking of it now , i heard the cry and the image flashed into my mind from 20 years before, it made me well up when nia said awww, sounding really sad , she knew that baby was suffering and she was locked into the images.
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here
