Paypal Hell
« on: May 17, 2007, 12:59:20 am »
Here's the story. I sold some stuff on ebay and naturally they use paypal. Right before I was going to transfer my money into my bank account they froze my account. Saying that I was doing suspicious things with my paypal account aka I was receiving money. So far I've been treated like a criminal...like I'm selling drugs to the cartel through paypal. Ive had to fax documents to them like 6 times....Ive had to ship items to my customers for free....Ive had to call everyday to ask "what do I have to do next to get my account unfroze"....they wanted past history of me....They lied to me on several occasions stating (your account will be resolved in a few hours) those hours turned into days. I expressed in many many emails that I needed this money to ship 200.00 worth of shipping. Which with my paypal fees and shipping fees are well above 400.00 now (that's off the top of what I made on ebay) If you use them Paypal will screw you over and over and treat you like your the lowest form of life on the planet.....they'll make you feel like your in court and that you've killed a family in Kansas somewhere with a spoon and a pair of pliers. And the ---smurfette--- of it is...I still haven't got my money out of paypal yet...so all in all...I have no money and I'm out 400.00 so far.

:soapbox:

And as an if it couldn't get worse...I also told them that I use this money for rent and today I got handed my eviction notice. Thank You Paypal  :badmood:

By any chance you didn't receive payment from an ebay user named Harpal?

This is one of the 14 excuses they gave me that it was frozen...keep in mind that yes I took payment from people on ebay thru credit card...but isnt that what paypal is for.

The PayPal account registered with this email address has made transactions
that could reasonably be considered to be cash advances. Cash advances are
not permitted under PayPal's User Agreement, which reads as follows:

"Your information and your activities (including your payments and receipt
of payments) through our service shall not consist of providing yourself a
cash advance from your credit card (or helping others to do so)."

thanks,
Chad
Account Review Department

I didn't use my credit card to purchase these items for myself....and i don't know any of the people I sold to personally. But that's just one of the reasons they said....it changes day to day. Tommorrow it'll be because I had burger king for dinner and not pizza hut :)

I personally HATE paypal. I have had problems with them in the past. Their resolution system is a big frikkin joke - only criminals can benefit from it. Their premier account fee system is a rip-off. They have tried to screw me twice, but the first time I went thru my credit card to get my money back, and the last time I had to harrass a deadbeat seller for months before I finally got a refund.

Good luck trying to get your money. I would say get a lawyer, but that would cost you more than what you already have in there. You should, however, contact the better business bureau and your state has some sort of consumer protection office - you'll have to look into that one.

Also don't like strangers coming into my home to get items... anytime I've sold a machine, it's been in the front room with all the doors to other rooms firmly shut.

This won't surprise anyone here about you.  :laugh2:
The rest of us here make a new friend when someone comes over to pick up arcade stuff.

I went to pick up a pacman cocktail from a guy and ended up getting a house tour, meeting his faimly, playing some pinball, discussing arcade stuff, etc.

When I first picked up my two jamma cabs from an ebay purchase, me and the wife visited with the people for a few hours, helped them rearrange their garage/game room, toured their farm, met the family, etc.

I've been using Paypal since the service first started, never had a problem with it... I'm lucky, I guess.  I have had a few instances where taking personal checks presented problems.

sharidan, you live in a different place than he does.  In some areas it's just not wise to let someone case your home after advertising that you have expensive things in it.

That's pretty much the situation.  Lived in a poor part of a college town for years, and it just evolved as a common sense thing.

One of the few times I did let some buyers into the gameroom, some of my stuff disappeared.  Basically, I used to pick up jewelry I found in parking lots.  We're not talking anything valuable, but single earrings or the occasional bracelet.  Had it up on the wall in the gameroom as a "treasure" display.

Two guys show up from Dallas to buy one of my machines, one of them was left in the gameroom alone for 2-3 minutes.  He managed to take most of the stuff and snag some random small things on the floor under one of the games.

Then you always run the risk of, "oh wow, I don't want this game, I want THAT one" and they're trying to get your Funhouse for $300.

And..... then I moved to St. Louis and there's so much weird and random crime.  :-P

The more I hear from you guys who are in bigger cities, the happier I get for deciding to stay in WV.

This type of crap happened a lot where I lived in NS, which was very very rural.  People would go to buy an item 50 km from their house, case the joint, and if it was worth it, burglarize the place later on.  It's not a city/urban thing, pieces of crap criminals are everywhere.

Can't tell you how many times I've gone to look at a game or console purchase and it's a $700k+ house... the guy isn't quite home yet from some errand... and he left his wife alone to answer the door to some random guy from the internet.

I don't even want to go inside in those instances it's such an ill advised thing for them to do.  I won't even let my wife answer the door to give away a Freecycle item if I'm not around.  She puts it out on the porch and locks the door.

Anybody have any experiences with google checkout?  It's pretty new still, so I don't know if very many people are using it yet, but could be an alternative if you are having problems with paypal

I've used PayPal for years. The only one time I had any problem was back when I was taking donations via PayPal. I had one guy send a donation. A week or two later he filed a non-delivery report with PayPal (I had, in fact, been tardy adding his name to the donator's list on the web page). I scratched my head, shrugged, and refunded his money. However, I never keep more than $200 on the account, and it's attached to a savings account with likewise no cash in it so I never have much at risk. I wouldn't trust PayPal's resolution system with a dime of my money.

I use paypal almost weekly in one form or another and have not had any problems with them. I did have a guy not ship me an item on Ebay, and was only able to get 1/2 the amout back. It was a $25 item.

I've never had trouble with Paypal. Happened to need their resolution system twice, lately, and both times it never went past the first stage. The seller almost immediately addressed the issue. I've heard about this paypal conundrum and seen the website dedicated to it. Dunno...

Civilized folk live along the interstates in the state. If you get into the rural areas away from civilization, you can run into some characters but for the most part the imbred rednecks from "Wrong Turn" are not representative of the country folk here. ;D

And no I don't live in the mountains, I right smack dab between Huntington & Charleston.

Ive had one problem with them.  I ordered something from hong kong (model set) and it never arrived.  paypal wouldnt help because it was past their resolution time period which i thought unfair since it takes long for items to be sent.  It was only 20 dollars but still i shouldnt have even tried getting anything from china.

thats why you shouldnt keep more than what you need at the moment in the account like others say.

ive also heard people have filed complaints against sellers from over a year ago and have gotten their money back even though the product was delievered, is this true?

Just follow the guidelines an you'll be okay. Comes from overseas, I don't wait that long, anyways. Jump on they ass, you no.

And what the ---fudgesicle--- does paypal freezing your paypal account have to do with your bank account. They can only draw funds from the latter, not freeze it, also....unless you were 'banking' on those auction funds...not a good strategy.

If paypal freezes your account you can't transfer funds to your bank account.....make more sense now...plus I buy and sell things on the internet regularly so when i buy 1600.00 worth of stuff and paypal verifies I have money I buy more...after I bought more paypal freezes my account. Meaning that I spent my money on more product that I'll sell. So if paypal out of the blue suspends my account for not doing anything wrong then where has strategy entered into the factor.

Dude, the law is the law.  No matter how dickish your landlord is, a little note doesn't mean crap if it's not compliant with the rental laws of your state.  There is no state that allows eviction based on a single late rent payment.

Yes there is..if you didnt sign a lease agreement then yes they can do what they want...he was nice enough to give me a 4 week eviction notice. And you can check that with the laws in florida. Legally speaking i can sit in here for 2 months and not move..But why..it's small and I need arcade room.

I was just about to say that, strategically, you should have your funds set up in your bank so that you aren't dependent for mere survival on what happens in your paypal account...but, four weeks?...that underlines it. Makes me wonder how you're going to get something bigger, let alone buy it...but, go for it, man, arcade room would be good.

If you read up there's something that says I had way more than 400. The whole point if this was to warn people. yes it's a forum and i subject myself to having people pick my life apart but besides that I'm just trying to offer warning. I called the FTC and BBB and finally paypal might release my money to me. And as far as my life savings is involved...it just happened to happen to me at the wrong time :) I'm sure everyones had that experience.

Heh.

You just reminded me of my last trip up there to pick up the pins. As pbj and I are loading the games... Random dude is running down the street, hiding behind bushes, etc. Shortly after a chick drives up the street like a madman, screaming sailor-blushing curses and wants to know where her "man" went. She was teh pissed! It was a very exciting trip to the big city!

I was glad to get back home where watching cows graze is the excitement highlight of the day.

Not indicating anything racial, here, just curious of demographics. What ethinicity were they?

Don't...ever...do...that...again....Please.

I've never had a problem with paypal so far.  I've used it for years as a seller.
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.
