Wei Ya 26" 15k E0007 Monitor chassis problem
« on: May 14, 2007, 08:37:25 am »
Recently got a Gottlieb Raiden II cabinet. Replaced 2 blown fuses on chassis, but monitor still showing no signs of life,  :banghead: so discharged monitor, removed chassis.
The 22 μF 160v capacitor (802 on board) blown / leg missing (!) . Rest of board looks clean with good joints.

Would this faulty capacitor cause the dead monitor? Should I just change this one or all capacitors?

thanks in advance. ;)

It could, but without seeing it in person I couldn't tell you.  Obviously it needs replacing, so go ahead and do it.  And since you asked, yeah, you may as well do all the others as well.

"15K E0007" does not appear to be a valid model number that I've heard of. Suggest contacting Wei-ya:

We found our chassis on zax.com.au monitor chassis site. This chassis seemed to be used on a lot of Australian built arcade machines.
cheers

I replaced the 22 μF 160v capacitor which had blown and all the other large caps.
Solder on HOTs and flyback look ok.
But tube still totally dead.
But large ceramic heat sink (with metal casing) on monitor chassis is getting extremely hot and after a while smolders. (Wei Ya  26" 15k E0007  picture on http://www.zax.com.au/spare_parts/monitor-chassis.html )

Ideas please.

you need to meter to transistors in hd and psu circuits

Metered all the transistors as suggested. All except 2 had equal readings when red/black reversed.
The transistor by the hots had NO reverse readings on both E and C and the transistor by itself right in the middle had HIGHER reading on B to C when reversed.
Do you think both of these need replacing?

btw we are just laymen here, not electronics whizzes like you lot! So please bear with us.  :dunno

really to read transistors correctly you need to remove them from the chassis, you would be looking for a dead short on either the horizontal deflection transistor, the power regulator or any protection diodes in either circuit.
there is always the sad possibility that the flyback is dead
