Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade/ No Sound Help!!
« on: May 02, 2007, 01:23:30 pm »
Whats up everyone.  I'm new here. This is my first post.

I plugged the main componet plug into the jamma board the wrong way (up side down) and now I have no sound. I've tryed everything. Changed the sound board (I had an extra one), The main board & the speaker. What the :censored: Else can it be?. I went to the audio set up in the options of the arcade machine to see what the problem was. Its says listen to sounds to see whats wrong. I didnt hear any sounds. It says its a hardware problem if I did'nt hear anything. I'm not stupid when it come's to this stuff. Its really really pissing me off. lol. What can be the problem. It cant be anything major.
HELP!!!!

PS The wire plug's (Harness) are all plugged in so it cant be that.

Try tracing the wire from the speaker all the way back to the board. Look for cut wires/shorts ect. I had a similar problem and found it to be a cut wire. Or put a meter on the speaker side of the wires and see if you have any open circuits. Good luck.

I did'nt mess with speaker wire so much because It happed after I plugged in the main componet upside down in the jamma board. I dont know how the speaker wire could get damged. I'll got check the speaker wire all the down to the board to be sure. If its not what else could it be.? Thanks!!

I did'nt check the speaker wire yet but the fuses are fine. There are only two fuse's unless I'm blind. I'll reply back with more tomorrow. If anyone else has any idea's please post.

Hopefully I will find out what the prob is by tomorrow evening when I get the chance to look at it again. Thanks!!!

maybe the speaker itself.... i had a similar problem, thought for sure it was something electrical, traced every wire, and in the end tested a different speaker and instant sound.....just a thought.

You probably blew something on the main board that tells the sound board to play sounds.. This is all just a guessing game and no one can really find the problem from here online.

I have No!! clue what it is now. It's not The main board because I changed it. It's Not the sound board because I changed it also. Its not the speaker. There's Now brand new speaker in it. Its not the speaker wire. I checked from the speaker wire all the way down to the board. I checked the 2 fuse's it's not the fuse's what the hell can it be?
Ive swapped boards like 5 times to be sure. I messed around so much now I have no clue what it can be.  This is really annoying. Anybody else have any wonderful Idea's? Thanks!

No Sound From speaker at all/No Fuzz. Everything in test is fine also. It says if you hear no sounds in test that its  a hardware malfuction. I cant figure out what the problem is. It can only be some many things. Thank!!!

Is it safe to assume you did the obvious already? Like go into Setup mode and change the volume setting?

Or..... if it's in a converted cab, that the volume knob isn't turned down or the volume pot is bad?  If you plugged something in wrong, you may have spiked the line and blew the pot....

Yea! Volume is up. I even have duplicates of the main board and the sound board just in case the original one ever broke. I can't get any sound with any of them. They all worked before. So I know now it is not none of the boards. Maybe the power supply is bad??

Don't know. I have another power supply. Im going to change that tonight If I get the chance. I guess I'll see what happens next. Thanks!!!

Blew the pot spiked the line.?? I remember when The problem first accured a smelled something burning for a second what could that been? or maybe I was just smelling things lol.

one of the first things you should have done is to check your power supply voltages with a multimeter, otherwise you are gonna end up going in circles

The sound board is fine the machine detects that it is in working order. I found a hole in the one wire harness today the belt looking one. Well I sayed there's the problem. But the wires are so small I just cut it. I reatached all the wires but it still did'nt work. I dont know. Any last idea's. Might have to call somebody to come look at.

Yea! I tryed Mortal Kombat 1. I'm Pretty sure its the ribbon. I talked to an arcade mech and since I replaced everything on the damn  machine but that. That has to be the prob since there's a tiny tiny hole in the band. Im going to get one in a week or so. I guess i'll see what happens then.

Well I got a little fuzz to come out of the speaker today but that was it. It then Stoped after I reset the arcade. I changed the ribbon band but still have no sound. Who Know's I'll now have to spend money on a Arcade mech to look at it. This Sucks.

Any last Idea's

logically there is pretty much only one thing that can be at fault
as you have swapped the boards this rules this out(unless both sets of boards are dead)
so it only leaves one real suspect, which is a voltage missing-does the sound board have a separate power input plug?what are the voltages required by that input, does it use a -5volts.
only worry is for a board to blow a hole in a ribbon cable must mean it had some serious wrong voltage going through it
anyway get your meter out and check all the voltages not just +5
