TFT For Cocktail ??
« on: May 01, 2007, 07:18:40 am »
I'm thinking about making a cocktail cabinet and was wondering what a TFT PC monitor would be like as apposed to a normal CRT?
I'm sure it has been done before by someone on here, only thing I'm curious about is the viewing angle, with my laptop if you don't have it at the correct angle it looks colorless, will the same problem occur on a cocktail?
Cheers

I would not recommend it at all. However, the viewing angles have been getting better and better on lcd screens. The 19" lcd I am using right now has a 180 degree viewing angle, but it is not perfect crystal clear brightness at 180 degrees.

I really wanted to do this myself, however, i've played with nearly 30 TFT panels, from 17" to 22" PC monitors and several 27" TV resolution

its simply not comfortable enough playing and seeing the screen, the viewing angles aren't good enough - even on the real expensive ones

I've had to buy a nice 22" CRT computer monitor to use in my cocktail now!

Hiya

found three that could fit the bill, so I ordered one

LG1919S - about 300 bucks for 19", it's got a claimed 160 degree viewing angle - and it looks pretty good in the shop too,

Samsung 971p - 178 degree viewing angle - $350

hantarex polo arcade TFT - around $400 - 160+ viewing angle - demoed on a website on the net

I've bitten the bullet, based upon seeing the LG monitor in action, i'm assuming the samsung one will be better, so have ordered it!

I am still wondering why you want to put an lcd in a cocktail. The things have built in room for a crt. What else are you going to do with that space?

You could open it up and store things down there for easy access...or even have more foot room.

Fitting it was my main concern, On my cabinet I created a metal framework for the PC monitor to sit in, I'll have to build a internal structure for a CRT monitor. LCD would have been much easier but I guess I'll have to go down the CRT route by the sounds of things.

Na, I'm fairly confident all displays will be obsolete next to OLEDs, or something similar, soon enough.
