Building cab for 4 year old - Simple software setup
« on: April 30, 2007, 12:28:36 am »
I am building a minimame cab for my 4 year old son.

Its now time to put software on the P111 800 512mb ram  10G HDD

I only want to put 3 games on for now (spiderman, Superman, batman)

Any simple ideas to get a machine he can turn on/off and select game but cant F@#K things up.

I was planning on using xp (mini edn) and Mala because that is what i am used too. As he cant read i need to show snaps of the game he is playing.

I want a P1 start, P1 coin and 3 fire buttons. I will also hook up an esc button and power switch.

A bit of a broad question but any help would be great.
If it ain't broke give it to me...i'll soon fix that

If you wanted to make it uber simple for your kid, you could have linux always boot up one game in mame, by putting that in the init tab.  Then, maybe you could have buttons activate keyboard macros that switch the games, so, each of the 3 games can just be activated by a button.

This isn't really that simple for you to set up, but it's at least an easy interface for the kid.

I guess mala can do what you want.

But in case you can try my FE also.

You can make layout that displays only picture like :

And in Addition, you can put a password to prevent accidentaly front end exit... the password can be entered with your arcade controls.

Atomic manage automatics shutdown on your machine as well.

If you want try have a look to my website.  http://www.atomicfe.com

Consider it downloaded Youki.

I hava had a look at atomicFE a long time ago when i was new to mame......... I remember it was a little harder for me to setup at the time., I am much more confidant with mame and fe's now so I will give it a go :)
