Rate my CPO
« on: April 22, 2007, 03:20:22 am »
This is my first draft for the CPO. I think there might be a bit too many lens flares going out. I'm also going to fix the D in Widowmaker so it matches my marquee - any thoughts?

I don't think you need to tweak the d too much, but I would definitely kill off the bulk of the lens flares. Otherwise, I like it, simple and clean.

Yeah, I think you should probably get rid of one lens flares.

All good suggestions. Thanks guys - I'll go ahead and create a new CPO based on your feedback.

Thanks -

It might only be because the image is scaled down, but I'm finding the text a little hard to read. For example the "a" and "t" of Waterman looks at first glance like "on". Could you use a different font, or perhaps space the characters out a bit more?

Thanks grasshopper - your right and that it's the scaled down image. When it's in the proper res and at 27" wide it looks fine.

While that is possible,I would think that at full DPI it is probably much easier to read.  Of course, I can't know that.

I think this will be the winner. I just need to verify all my controls will fit in the spaces I've alloted.

Still too many lens flares... it will look odd if you put that under lexan or plexi with the flares below the reflective surface.  Plus you can definitely tell the center one is artificial as it spans too many graphic elements.

The new d is a big improvment.

Thanks, I agree with the center one spanning too many elements. Unfortunately, I think my limited knowledge of photoshop is hurting me. I think I have an idea on how to make the joystick area appear in front of the flare.

I'll also change the color of the bottom flares to match the color of all the other flares.

Yeah, you'd have to have the elements on separate layers.  I'm not a big fan of lens flares.  It's one of those lower-intermediate techniques that, when a person learns to use them, they often go way overboard.  One or two small well placed lens flares is far more effective than a whole bunch of big ones.  They seem to be drawing attention away from the main graphics at this point, sitting right center as the brightest eyedraw in the image.

They may be conflicting visually with the gradients behind them, too.  Try posting one without any lens flares, or maybe just the ones on the R and W, to see how folks like it.

At the center of the flare is a spinner, which I hoped would look decent.

As for the lower-intermediate technique - thats totally me. heh. I'll play around with it some more -it needs to go to the printer soon. Thanks for the input.

Definitely like v 2.0 much better. As for the center lens flare, I would try to make it so there aren't as many additional 'reflections'(?) below or above the location of the spinner. I would suggest tightening it up more like the flares on your text.

As for Pshop itself, just search the web for tutorials when you are bored, and run through them several times. You'll start to pick up the interface and more advanced techniques with a little practice, and refer to tutorials less and less when you do new work. I've been using it since version 3, and it's still one of my favorite pieces of software - period.

Ok, I'll be the dissenter... I like much of version 1 better.  ;D  Specifically, I like the lettering being on the top, I like the outline color better, and I prefer the light points on the W and R.  Overall, it just seems brighter and more interesting to look at.  I will say, I do like the solid gray background for the joystick areas and both are better than anything I could do at this point!  Good luck.
