Wii Remote dropping sync
« on: April 20, 2007, 02:44:58 pm »
I've had my Wii since launch. Since about 15 minutes after launch, I've had the same two remotes synced to it. Last night, in the middle of use (navigating the channels screen, nothing intense), the remote I was using just stopped responding. The batteries were fine, probably replaced a few weeks ago actually. Regardless of what button I pushed, all four blue LEDs on the remote would flash together.

So, I tried to resync the remote and had no response. Deciding to worry about it later, I grabbed remote 2. Same thing. Wouldn't respond to a sync either. I've gone through the online troubleshooting and, after having done everything Big N suggests, they recommend that I may have to ship the console to them for repair. Not something I'm terribly excited about having to do.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what was the outcome?

Pull the AC for a minute then plug it back in and try again.  It's happened to me once and this cleared it.  Did they not suggest this?  I've seen other reports of the same problem and solution in various places on the net.  I'd be surprised if Nintendo hasn't heard about it.

Have had the exact same thing happen to me.  Like Samstag said, all I do is pull the power for a few seconds.

I didn't have to pull the plug out for mine... all I did was completely turn the unit off momentarily by pushing the power button til it turned red (same effect as unplugging it).  Wiimotes work again!

I think the Standby mode is pretty useless, actually......

It's not quite the same as unplugging it.  The only time that no power is able to reach the Wii is when you pull the power cable from the outlet.

However, if this ever happens to me again I'll try what you did.

Sounds like you got it resolved, but I thought I'd chime in to say it happened to me too.

I originally thought it was something my 4 year old had done, but I've since talked to others and it seems to be quite common. In my case I was simply able to re-sync and things were back to normal. Fortunately, it has only happened once since getting the Wii (Early January).

This happened to me recently, too. I think I read somewhere that if you hold down the sync button (on the wii) for ~30 seconds, it "refreshes" the bluetooth connection (or something). I did this and it started working again.

The manual also talks about all of the things you guys are mentioning.

For what it's worth.
