Funky colors palette in certain games, esp. Midway
« on: April 16, 2007, 07:14:34 pm »
Hello.

I have WinXP Pro with ArcadeVGA v.2 in a cabinet with a Wells Gardner monitor. Often, when I load games (usually Midway games), they have this terrible color pallete. It almost looks like 256 colors or something. A reboot or two sometimes solves the problem, but not usually. I'm so flustered that I've barely used the cabinet this year, even though I spent months last year building it!

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Windows is set to 16 or 32 bit color, neither of which seem to help the Midway games. I think I'm using the newest version of MameWAH if that makes a difference. Thanks!

1) Open paint in Windows.   Do an "edit colors" and see if the problem occurs there (no dithering, and if the edit colors settings move smoothly and don't "jump widely" between colors.

2) Make sure a program you are running is not trying to use a smaller pallette.

3) Make sure there is no board connected between the monitor and the computer.  Sometimes if there was an old inverter or other board connected this can happen.

Everything looks perfect in windows. The games with the crazy colors were working fine before, but lately just haven't been working properly. There is no extra hardware between the monitor and computer...just a JPac
