NO PICTURE ON MONITOR! OH NOEZ!
« on: April 14, 2007, 11:52:28 pm »
Ok so I am in the final stages of my latest project and today installed the monitor and hooked it up to my PC to test it out.
I have used this PC and monitor before with this exact set up and it has worked fine. It has been in storage for about 2 years.
I am using an arcade monitor with the original (version 1) arcadevga card and a video amp.
I get nothing on the monitor when using the arcadevga video out connection. When I plug the monitor into the normal onboard video out connection I get a picture (a pretty bad picture with multiple images but the arcade monitor definately is not the problem).
Do you think the arcadevga card could have failed for some reason? Any help would be appreciated I really want to get this thing up and running.

Update: When I first had problems with this today I hooked up a pc monitor to the on board video out connection on my pc to check if mame, mamewah etc were still running. Everything was fine so I hooked up the pc to the arcade monitor again and still nothing.
To troubleshoot I again hooked up the pc to a pc monitor and now I get no signal at all! I feel like I've fried something here? What is going on?

Have you checked in the BIOS of the pc to turn off the onboard video?
To tell it to use the PCI video card......

Thanks I'll give it a try (no idea how to do it, lol).
I just expected that after 2 years when  I connected everything back up it would like it did before. I now have a working arcade monitor, a working arcadevga card (I assume it's ok) and a working computer that now I can't even get to display a picture on a normal pc monitor! Arrggghhh HELP!

I re-read your original post..... and want to be clear on one thing.....

Did you ever have the ArcadeVGA card displaying a picture on either the PC monitor or the arcade monitor?

Thanks Kevin. Yes when I had it in my last machine the arcadevga card worked perfectly with my arcade monitor. However this time I can't get anything. At one stage I had the arcade monitor plugged in to the normal video out and the pic was garbled (I then realised I had it plugged in to the wrong socket) when I swapped it to the arcadevga connection I got nothing. I also got a pic on the pc monitor through the normal video out and actually played a game of galaga but since then nothing. Losing the pic on the pc monitor seemed to coincide with accidentally clicking on some random screen resolution you know when you click on the little galaga icon on the task bar and it brings up a list of resolutions? Maybe I clicked on a resolution that the pc monitor can't support? but this wouldn't affect the arcadevga and the arcade monitor and now the pc monitor just comes up with the 'no signal' message.

Yeah, it sounds like you have TWO initial problems to work out first.

1. Restore the resolution change to get the onboard video and the PC monitor to work again. (just to get things working again)

2. Turn OFF the onboard video in the BIOS to get the ArcadeVGA card to work.
(otherwise it will continue to want to use the onboard video)

You may want to try booting into the BIOS and going ahead and turning the onboard stuff off and turn the PCI video on(or AGP I think is the version 1 ArcadeVGA) to see if the ArcadeVGA will come on with the arcade monitor connected. The version one wasn't meant to be used on a PC monitor if I remember correctly.

Have you installed all the Arcadevga drivers and removed all other video card drivers?

I'm not a video card expert....just see alot of these similar problems on here.
I've never even touched an ArcadeVGA card. (version 1 or the newer one)

Thanks Kevin. Yes ATI removed and arcadevga drivers down loaded. Like I said this is the exact same set up I had running perfectly 2 years ago. Same computer, sme monitor, same arcadevga card. It's weird.

How do I change the resolution back when I can't see the screen?

I'll have a little fiddle in the BIOS and see if I can see anything (I have a feeling you may be on to something there, I'll let you know how it goes).

Anyone else feel free to chip in please!

woohoo all is well.
I'm not really sure what I did but while the pc was connected to the pc monitor during start up I hit F8 and then went in to some other options, enabled vga mode and then hooked up the pc to the arcade machine and hey presto all better! Thanks for the help.
