GameEx Noob Question
« on: April 14, 2007, 04:57:05 pm »
Through countless hours searching the forums and picking out tidbits (lots of great info here) I've got to the point that I can make my U360, TT2 spinner and Happs USB trackball working great in Mame32.

So now I am taking the next step and trying to get GameEx working.

I have configured GameEx to point to the Mame32 folders.  The joystick and buttons work great, but when I go into GameEx and try to play a spinner or trackball game, I get no response.

What am I doing wrong?  I have the spinner set to the X-axis on the OptiWiz, is that my problem.  Why would it work when running directly from Mame32 and not work when I use the GameEx front end?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you set up those controls within MAME itself?  TAB - INPUT ALL GAMES - etc. is where it would be.

Ok, help me out here then.  My TT2 spinner works perfectly when I run Arkanoid from Mame32.  If I then open GameEx and run Arkanoid, the TT2 spinner no longer works, but the U360 will move the control.  I guess I don't understand why they would work differently if they are both running the same mame32.exe?

Maybe this is the big question that I don't understand right now:

If I do as you say and hit TAB and click on Input (this game) it says the Dial is using J1 X Axis for this game.  How do I tell it to use the TT2 spinner for this game?  The TT2 is a USB device so I guess I don't understand how to set the control.

I haven't had this issue.  Since you're using other usb devices, maybe it's an ID issue?

this is off memory so bear with me..

go to mame's configuration file in your mame folder.  i think it's a .conf file, or config.bat or something to that nature.  right click it, and select edit.  this opens the configuration in notepad.  now scroll down until you see JOYSTICKS, TRACKBALL, LIGHTGUN, SPINNERS.  across from the device it will say "mouse" for example.  meaning your trackball, spinner is acting as your mouse in mame.

hope this helps, i know it's choppy, but i don't even have a spinner so i couldn't tell you, that is how you do the trackball.
