You don't have to build a huge rig with a dedicated control panel.  A very small one with the right amount of small buttons will do the same.  JAMMA sticks are just 4 microswitches, the buttons are just microswitches.  You can put a decent JAMMA test rig in a small space.  I've seen plenty of them in only a couple of square feet.  A power supply, an RGB capable 15khz monitor (old Commodore monitors are perfect, small, use house AC, and also accept RCA for regular TV), and a test panel less than a foot square.

hi
i wanted a large work surface to work & test boards ect
i also repair beer fonts & chip consoles ect on it i hate being in tight spaces ...
so i made a big thing so i could have say a pcb & a console in bits and a beer pump all at the same time + im having a new kitchen so all the old units are going under and over what you see...
also with the buttons instead of the sticks is ok but i like to play the games aswell :)

cheers

Fair enough, but watch out for that joystick, I saw one of those in hole in a movie once and you won't like where it goes.

Mine.  Still a work in progress, but functional.  Having a dedicated table like that will be very handy Smythe.  My workspace is small, so I end up working on something then going to the other room to plug it into my tester.  Hmm.. I should get more organized.

yes 5"

Cool.  Is it using an RGB-composite adapter or does it actually accept raw RGB?  Not many tmall LCDs I've seen accept RGB.

Some of those 5" and 7" console LCDs can be hacked to accept RGB.
