New to arcade monitors--Questions about D9200
« on: April 13, 2003, 07:58:55 pm »
From what I have read in many different places, the WG D9200 is perhaps the best arcade monitor out there for MAME because of its 15-31 mhz capabilities, along the "natural" presentation of any MAME game.  My question is this, does the D9200 automatically chose the proper resolution to use for each game?  So if I go from Pac-Man to Crusin World, does the D9200 automatically switch from 15mhz, to 24 or 31 mhz?  Or is it programmed for each game, or does it have to be done automatically with a switch/button each time?
If it can be programmed for each game--how would you know which games are displayed the best at which resolutions?
Lastly, has anyone used the D9200 33" version?  How does it compare with the 27" picture quality wise?  How do the game look on the 33" compared with the 27"?
Thanks.

Yes, AdvanceMAME will automatically choose the correct mode.  Just use easycab to setup your D9200 and everything will work perfectly.

Not all video cards work at 15kHz in AdvanceMAME, be sure you use a recommended card.

Thanks for the reply.
Just for curiousity, how would it work if you didnt use advancemame.  I currently use the Windows version of MAME as it has been stated that advancemame is for "experts" only.  If just using the ordinary version of MAME, how would it work using the D9200--is it still possible for MAME to recognize the best format for each rom or do you have to set(program) the proper format for each rom?  Can games be programmed to a certain resolution or does it have to be done manually each time?
Perhaps I should look into using advancemame after getting more MAME experience, but wondering what the difference would be using ordinary MAME with the D9200.
Thanks.

afaik, windows mame uses standard video modes..  800x600, 640x480, at vga frequencies.  This doesn't really have much to do with what monitor you use. (except that 800x600 is perhaps the highest you'll get out of the D9200).
