Online website builder recommendations
« on: April 10, 2007, 02:19:35 am »
My brother has a gardening business and he needs to get a web page up for it stat, like in the next couple days.  He wants to have a nice one made for him, but in the mean time he needs to just get something up.  Can anyone suggest some tools for him?  I think Front Page is even much more complicated (and powerful) than what he is looking for.  Probably something more along the lines of an online site builder that totally holds a user's hand and is catered to someone who knows absolutely nothing about HTML and how webpages work.

Any suggestions?  He doesn't have a web host (but he owns his domain already), so even recommendations for a good host that includes very easy to use site building tools would be useful.

Thanks

How about a cheap template from http://templatemonster.com combined with an inexpensive host like http://powweb.com....?

I think most decent hosts come with a website builder these days.  I recently signed up with www.1and1.com  and it took me less then 5 minutes to build a simple website.  Right now my website is basically a placeholder until I get around to building a better one, but it gets the job done.

If your curious, heres the website I made http://www.sevendayappraisal.net
note: the "order appraisal" page was not made by their software.

HI this is my stat web page.
(there it's done)

There you go. Copy that into Notepad. Save as "index.html" and upload to a free website host. You're done.

seriously though, I'm trying to point out how freakin simple it is to make a webpage. Do it!

Well, it's not 100% XHTML compliant, but it's not like any of the WYSIWYG products out there are, either...

As for building an online website... Definitely build an online website. Those offline websites never seem to take off.

There are a lot of free web building tools out there.  Like others have already said, many hosts include one, or as an alternative you could always use a OS solution like OSCommerce if you are looking for something a bit more involved

Heh . . . an online builder of websites, not a builder of online websites.

Not an online website builder but I always use Adobe Dreamweaver... if you have some understanding of the basics it's easy to set up a site very fast.
It's an expensive piece of software so maybe he can uhh..... borrow it from a friend? :P
