25K2193 - Preparing for first use
« on: April 04, 2007, 10:35:21 pm »
If I understand right, this is the same as a U2000.  I just bought a used one and the guy I bought it from said I should use an isolation xfmr, but I saw a post elsewhere on this board that says the U2000 doesn't need to go through a xfmr.  Which is right?
I see, on the PCB, a connector with three holes.  I assume that is the AC input?  Is the center lead the  ground?  And does polarity matter for the hot and neutral leads?
Is there anything else I should do or worry about before I fire this puppy up for the first time?  It will be connected to a computer and an ArcadeVGA card.
Thanks.

Im not sure that sounds right.  A U2000 is definitely not a 25K7193 ... did you make a typo?  I've never heard of a 2193.

A U2000 doesnt require an iso (that I can remember)... and you should see a little square switcher near the AC inputs to confirm that.   A 7193 definitely needs an ISO.  Do not try it without one... as not only does an ISO add safetly isolation, the monitor goes into a brown out when powering up cold... The iso essentially limits the current to the monitor.  Going direct will blow the traces and parts off the board.

It is safe to use an ISO on a monitor that does not require it.  So when in doubt, use it.

Uh...  So, since the 25K2193 is the same as a U2000, and a U2000 doesn't need an isolation xfmr, I don't need one, right (just trying to apply logic)?  But it's recommended anyway??

Correct. It doesn't need one, but if the cabinet already has one and the wiring harness is already there to the monitor go ahead and use it anyway. Why make extra work for yourself.
