This auction is driving me nuts.  I want that Fathom playfield as I have a Fathom needing a hard shop job.  I'd definitely be willing to pay for the service, split up the items, etc for a person willing to pick up and ship.  I'm not sure why this seller won't ship, these are parts playfields.

You might want to try posting on MAACA ... I have no use for the other playfields and I ain't driving to Cobourg, but someone there might be able to help as they are mostly pinheads and many are relatively local.

Cheers.

Thanks for the tip... mapquest puts them still 4+ hours away... maybe they have some outliers, though.

A sizable portion of those folks are in Ontario with a good number further west than I am and a number of them do runs from SW Ontario (Toronto, London) through to Montreal and Coburg is on that route.

Good luck.

Well, I like plenty of pinballs that other people think are horrible, so I'm no authority.. but Fathom was a sub-$500 machine until those repro playfields came out.

Kinda like Flight 2000 (Hear that, Kev and Mike ?), which is also nice.

If you want to be the first to start a deep conversation i will gladly comment.

Cheers.

Fathom was already well in the $1000+ range when those playfields were produced.  They shipped in late 2004, IIRC, and an RGP search would show asking prices in that range in the entire year prior.  It saw a price surge that year along with a few other machines, in part in anticipation of the new playfields, but not entirely.  The playfields were in response to the rising demand and prices, too, so it was a two way street there.

Flight 2000 is an interesting machine, better than most of the widebodies from back then.  The collectors were all puzzled when CPR made repro plastics.

Not everybody was puzzled ... particularly those who know that Kevin has an F2K ... and virtually all F2Ks have busted-up plastics, so it made the perfect platics project.

I'm sure all 20 owners of F2k were thrilled. ;D

I know that I was. And, IF the copyrights are not enforced, then the repros are, in point of fact, legal.

While we're on the topic of intellectual property, don't you have some 'defective' software to return ?  >:D

Ugh... I'm so sick of reading armchair opinions about copyright law.  Remember, it's so simple that the lawbooks are 6" thick!  :D

That being said, the stuff is probably borderline public domain by now.

While I can't account for the veracity of the statement, Kevin has previously stated "there's no problem to bring back Haunted House, Black Hole, Flight 2000, etc... They're willing to give us licenses whenever we need them."

Should we believe your armchair opinions or Kevin's public statements ?

Cheers.

I love Haunted House.

I have a Sinbad that would love some new plastics.   :)

Sorry ... perhaps I should have been clearer ... Kevin was referring to "Gottlieb Development LLC and Stern Pinball, Inc." (as opposed to Bally and WMS Gaming) to see what their views were on repros.

The statement stands ... your thoughts ?

Not me, I don't have a Haunted House.  I'm strongly considering buying a BK playfield if they get to that, though.  I have a hard played BK that would be worth a full restore if it had that type of playfield.

Makes no sense that he has ship to: United states and Canada but then says he won't ship.  Why didn't he just put pickup only.

Well, looks like the Classic Playfield guys are implying differently if you read here:

http://www.classicplayfields.com/updates.html

Saying they visited Gary Stern in person to arrange licensing for Flight 2000.  They do mention "(and his wife)".

Makes me wonder if they didn't inadvertantly alert Gary to their intentions, and his relations with his ex-wife were congenial enough that he intervened on her behalf.  Or lied to them.  :D

What the heck... I'll play internet detective with the patent and copyright databases and see what I can find out.

Could well be ... the article I referred to is in GameRoom (Nov 2005).

Just don't you go fouling up my chances for a repro F2K playfield!

Cheers

I'm going home for the first time in years this summer... I'm half tempted to make the drive up to Halifax if they're willing to take a visitor.

You can't "pick up".  The legal situation is such that the product has to physically go to Illinois Pinball's warehouse in Illinois, and then be shipped from there.

No direct sales.  It was done illegally on Fathom.

He's talking about the ebay lot I posted, not a repro.
