operating system not found :-( *fixed*

I'm running an emachin t4160.  I have two user names on my machine, computer boots up right into GameEX, i would log off to my second user name to windows. I was using Instant sheller to hide windows, Game EX as my FE, windows 2000 as my OS. Machine worked great. i decided to install znes. I updated game list on gameex, it froze, i restarted, gave me few errors before it shut down, one on direct x (i think) one on gameex and one on my video card.  well now it turns on and says operating system not found. I cant do anything.  Do you all think i have to wipe it and start from scratch? is there a way i can go into windows to fix everything?? how?

Is the hard drive still showing up in the BIOS?  A cable may have come loose.

Got into set up, Went to load default settings and it went back to normal  ???
Im going to go back and mess with it see what happened. now im scared of hidding windows and SHELLing into my FE. (is shelling a word? he he)
