Atomic FE & Joystick
« on: March 24, 2007, 09:06:14 pm »
Hello, I just tried out Atomic FE and I'd love to use it on my next project, I especially like the animation abilities and the boot directly to game option, with a little messing around I was able to make some cool effects. The only thing I wish it had was native joystick support, since I can't get it to work with an Ultrastik using USB (correct me if I'm wrong on that one, but as far as I know the 360 acts like a gamepad in USB mode) without using joytokey and I'd like to not have to use that at all. I've noticed a few other threads now asking for that feature, if that feature is possible, that would be awesome!

This feature should come.  I have just ordered a USB Joystick to be able to implement that support.  So it should be here in the next major version.  But i have no date for the next version.

Good to hear.  I have been happy with mamewah, but having options is allways great and I really like the idea of animated intos and backgrounds.

Keep us posted. (I'm sure you will)

I dont have a U360 yet so I could be way off base here, but would it be possible to use the on-board interface in output mode and connect it to an encoder along side the USB connection?
That would give you the 4 digital outputs to control the FE, then when you loaded your map for the 360 you could disable those 4 outputs from the encoder so they weren't fighting the usb for control of the emulator.

Unless you're not using an encoder.... which I didn't think about until just now... In which case, never mind.

I don't know to much about the 360 for now.

But it is in my plan to support it as well.

Sorta assumed one or the other would run - vs both simultaneously.  Have look through Ultimarc, or ask Andy on that one.

You're right Extreme8, I just checked the site again, it can be set to Output mode with a harness to connect to an encoder and connected to USB for mapping at the same time! So it can work that way  I thought it had to be set up as one or the other.

It would still be nice to have this implemented.  I will have a Midway 49-way connected to a GPWiz49 as my main joystick.  Even though there is support for the GPWiz49 it is still not recognized as the main joystick without JoyToKey.  I prefer to have as little overhead as possible while having a nice front end.

Atomic has a basic support for PC Joystick in Front End mode . The problem is it is not configurable and limited.  I know it works with the GP49Wiz.
What did you choose for Front End mode for the GP49Wiz in AtomicManager?

Are you sure you GP49Wiz is detected as a joystick in windows?

I tested the stick in windows before I did anything else and it does work.  I am not in front of my cab right now but I believe that I chose 4 way for the frond end mode.

I'll check tonight if I have the time.  I may not be able to get on this until after April 15th.  I still have to do my Income Taxes.

Try to put mode 1 or 2  (raw mode or progressive mode).

And on the option tab of AtomicManager.

Check  the checkbox :  Analogic mode for joystick

(in this mode more you press, faster the list goes)

Another thing, the Joystick must detected as Joystick 1 ...

That is where the rub is.  My 49-way is detected as joystick 2.  I also have a GPWiz for everything else.  Looks like I am going to have to do some rewiring sooner that I thought.  I have a KeyWiz so I can swap cards without too much difficulty.  It is just taking the time to do it.  Thanks Youki.

I have everything wired to the GPWiz49 and it is the only joystick detected.  I have set Atomic for analog mode and set the GPWiz49 mode to 1.  I can use the stick in MAME but it doesn't work in the front end.

Any more words of wisdom???

MAME detects it as joystick #1.  I tried modes 1,2,3,4 and still nothing.  Am I still going to need JoyToKey or RBKey??  I am using the most recent version from your site.

It seems you will have to use Joytokey while in front end Mode.  But that's strange. I don't what happens with your config. :dunno
