WANTED: Custom CPO Artwork
« on: March 21, 2007, 09:36:26 pm »
Hello,
I have no skills in graphic design and I really don't have the available time to put into figuring out how to do this on my own.  But my loss could be someone else's gain because I am willing to pay a fair price for someone's service in creating the following:

I am looking for a custom CPO for the 4 player control panel that I am making right now, attached is a picture of my control panel layout.  This design is *almost* finalized, so I would say it is about 90% accurate.  I would like to have a background of the northern lights as my CPO much like the second picture attached below.  If it was just like the sky part of the pic that would work great.  The only other feature needed is to have the borders surrounding the controls, such as around Joystick 1 and its seven buttons with labels for Player 1, button 1, button 2, etc...

Is anyone available and interested in doing something like this?

Thanks,
TexFlood

Well, would be easy enough to do, but with the CP that size, you'd need a absolutely gigantic file to start with if you wanted it to look good.  What are the approximate dimensions of your CP?

My CP will be 44" x 20".

I didn't realize it would be a huge file.  How big of a file would this roughly end up being?

To make it easier, I would be willing to skip the sky picture aspect of the CPO and just have the borders around the controls with a black background (with labels for all the controls).  Does that make it the file size any more reasonable?

Check out this post: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=62660.0.  I may have already crafted something very similar to what you may be wanting.  If you like the border around the buttons and sticks, send me a PM.

How big of a file would this roughly end up being?

I am creating some artwork for a 37" x 14" panel.  The entire image is around 113 MB right now.

EDIT.  Just to clarify, that's a .bmp file.  Jpg version is much smaller, 23 MB.

To make it easier, I would be willing to skip the sky picture aspect of the CPO and just have the borders around the controls with a black background (with labels for all the controls).  Does that make it the file size any more reasonable?

If it was just plain black it would probably be a smaller size.  But if you are going to pay for the artwork ($70 ++ ) you might as well have it exactly like you want it (My opinion anyway).  Size really isn't an issue; someone could send you the file via email.

In case you wondered, the reason why panel artwork is so large is because if you are going to print an image it needs to be atleast 300 DPI.  (Dots Per Inch -- just a way to measure resolutions)  Most computer image files are 72 DPI or less, which look fine on a computer monitor.

In short, for a panel your size, you need to have an image that has a resolution of 13200 x 6000.

I believe that is all correct...

Just as it is,

I'd have to say that you'd need at least 150 DPI to make it look decent. My side art that I created is only 150 DPI, but is 71" x 29". I used a 72 DPI image that was about 4" x 6" and with some effects in Photoshop, I managed to make it look pretty good.

Now my control panel is 30" x 12" and is 142 MB in a layered PSD file. When I make a TIFF to print it, its even bigger. Granted its a layered TIFF file, but it's the best thing to print with. Also, you have to see if the printer uses CMYK or RGB to print. Most use CMYK, which means certain blues and reds won't look blue and red. Just an FYI to anyone out there.
