Stargate SG-1 The End?
« on: March 20, 2007, 02:31:33 pm »
I just watched Stargate SG-1 Season 10 episode 20 (Unending).   Did anyone else feel like nothing was really resolved or concluded?    I was looking forward to some resolution and just felt like everything was left hanging.

I guess everything was left for the movies to take care of.

TV Movies, Episode 1 (The Ark of Truth)
The story follows 'SG-1' as they search for an ancient weapon that could help them defeat the 'Ori'. Then they discover the device may be in the Ori's own home galaxy. As the Ori prepare to send ships through to the Milky Way to attack Earth, SG-1 travels to the Ori galaxy aboard the 'Odyssey'. But the 'International Oversight' committee has their own plans and SG-1 finds themselves in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

TV Movies, Episode 2 (CONTINUUM)
While SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al, the last of the goa'uld system lords, Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter, Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened, a fleet of goa'uld motherships arrives in orbit, led by Ba'al, his queen, Katesh (Vala), and his first prime, Teal'c. SG-1 must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the goa'uld.

Actually they've only had up to Season 10 episode 10 so far, so they still have another 10 episodes to play before the season is over.  At that point the movies will take over the storyline.

Just as a personal aside.  Season 10 episode 13 with Samantha Carter in an alternate universe has the best shots I have ever scene of her in and evening dress.

I'll try to avoid any spoilers in general - but I agree that absolutely nothing major was resolved. The episodes were written with them already planning that the movies would be "required bookends" as it were.

However, there were two minor arcs touched upon. The first about those guys who are in it at the start (which is sad), and the second involving those members of the team. It is a really, really, REALLY big shame that they couldn't get RDA back for that last episode because that would have been much more interesting to watch then a cello.

Looks like another Stargate spinoff show is in the works, but still a long ways off.

"The working title of the third 'Stargate' television series is 'Stargate Universe', executive producer Robert C. Cooper told GateWorld. The show currently exists in the form of a one-page treatment of the story and characters. Cooper and executive producer Brad Wright will start writing the pilot after shooting on the two 'Stargate SG-1' movies finishes in June. Meanwhile, new episodes of 'SG-1' and 'Atlantis' start airing April 13 in the U.S., on The SCI FI Channel. "

I can't wait for the movie based on a tv show based on a movie to come out.

Isn't that the first sign of the apocalypse?

Seriously though... 10 seasons is too much for a really good show, much less an "eh it's a dumb man's star trek" series.  Remember, this is coming from a fan of the show, but even I have enough sense to know that it wasn't that good to begin with.  Anyway, the show is old, it's time to end it.  Movies will be a nice way to ease us out of the series.

The only reason I'm sad about this is that right now the air-waves are seriously low on sci-fi.  BSG is also endign next year, atlantis is even more of a lame start trek clone than sg1 and for the first time since 1989... no star trek!

I've never seen a single episode...about 5 minutes of about 10-15 different episodes,  but I grow bored easily.

SG-1's first few seasons were really good, but they definately jumped the shark once they finished the Gould (spelling?) storyline and Mcgiver left the show.
