Argh. Galaga loses hi-score often!!
« on: March 19, 2007, 08:03:45 am »
Hi all!

I just made my new record in Galaga last week(213,000), and was happy!

But when the game is running in attract, it always seem that someone
wiggles the stick or something, and enters the 'free game'. As soon as this
happens the games resets, and my score is GONE!!!!! It has happened
five times so far. Sometimes I think it just happens out of nothing. (I've had
this problem no matter what files and machine etc., so updating stuff has
no effect)

Galaga is my favorite game, but soon I will have to stop getting hiscores in
it due to that thing alone! :hissy:

Thanks,

Nicholas

EDIT: This is on my Mame cabinet!!

Sounds like he is misdiagnosing the cause and it's probably a failing memory chip or something in the circuit that can clear the memory chip.

Does mame have a hotkey for clearing the highscores?

And what does "and enters the 'free game'" mean?

Maybe he means the bug where you can play a few seconds for free on Galaga from the attract mode?

This has something to do with the state-save in newer mame versions.
I've noticed the problem too, and only with galaga.

Try using an older mame version just for that game, and your hiscores should stick.
