Need opinion on a monitor
« on: March 18, 2007, 04:03:40 am »
I built a machine sucessfully with a 25" TV.  It looks great until I peek at the secondary computer monitor I have set up.  I understand the computer monitor to some people is too crisp (scan lines?), but I don't think I belong to that camp.  the TV is just too blurry.  By the reviews I've seen, I really want the Wells Gardner, but i think it's out of my price range.  The cab I bought came with a working monitor.  it was a Double Dragon converted to MKII.  MKII looked fine on it before I dismantled it.  What are my pros and cons of buying the Ultimarc VGA adapter and re-installing my original monitor, keeping the TV, or saving for the wells Gardner (Can't find it for less than 6-700 shipped).?  I realize there are many discussions on this subject, but looking for some fresg, not too technical insight.

You don't want a WG.....that is just beggin for a headache...try a Betson or a Nieman.

The WGs are WAY to unreliable and tend to get shipped poorly....lots of stories of people unpacking broken Wells monitors and premature breakage. Arcade monitors are the way to go, just not WG arcade monitors

Wells-Gardner's "Digital" monitors are not the way to go. If all you've seen are 'glowing' reports on them then you haven't read the right reports. Wells-Gardner monitors over the past several years have been plagued with reliability and quality control problems in addition to bad shipping and they're overpriced.

yeah, I'd check out Nieman, cos he directly deals with and cares about us.  But you might check out the adapter and your old monitor. It's quite a bit less, no?
