Top Gun help

Having a problem with the top guns in Mame. I bought two but I've only tried setting up the first one. I'm using Mame 1.12 Dos and Guncon2's drivers. The problem I'm having is that the gun works great in the desktop but does almost nothing in game. Basically, depending on the game it'll either not effect it at all or it'll move it only occasionally (and to some random position). I've tried the input commands but it doesn't detect them well. I made the following changes to the .ini based on several very long forum threads on the guns but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas? Setting somewhere I'm missing? It's a 2k system.

mouse 1
joystick 0
lightgun 1
dual_lightgun 0
lightgun_device lightgun

Note that I've tried every combination of the mouse and lightgun settings to 0 and 1. I also tried that first lightgun setting as 'lightgun lightgun'. Since it works in windows I'm sure I'm missing some setting in Mame, I just dont' know where to look next. Any ideas or a location to look next?

You only need the "mouse 1" setting, not the lightgun setting.

Assuming you can control the mouse pointer in windows with your gun, you should be getting it going in mame. You need to hit tab when running a game to set it up. See the link.

Perfect. Thank you, I'll try that on Monday. I tend to agree, it worked in Windows so I'm sure it's something I was doing wrong in Mame. That wiki looks like what I was after, there are a few command line items I hadn't tried so I'll try those on Monday.
