Anyone used UltraStik with SiniStar?
« on: March 14, 2007, 12:18:59 am »
I've tried out Sinistar from having read about it here. While I grew up on many of its contemporaries, this game is new to me. I don't have a 49-way but I've read the UltraStik (which I have) analog setting is acceptable. I gave the game some spins and man it is tough. I found it very hard to control. I've dialed down sensitivity, and increased centering to try to bring in better control. Still is hard to harvest those little crystals and build Sinibombs. Before I know it Sinistar is fully formed and out to chomp me up before I've harvested enough bombs. It's an addictive little number even though my son and I totally suck still.

So I'm looking for someone whose familiar with the feel of the original game, and may have some suggestions on MAME analog settings or possibly even special UltraStik map prefs that can better introduce control and replicate the feel of the game. (And hey, if you have any tactics to share, I'm listening.  ;)  ) Doesn't help that this game, like Defender, doesn't have Dips to let me increase the lives while we learn this buggar.

Cheers.

Well, I haven't tried the UltraStik, but your description *sounds* like Sinistar as played with original controls :)

The 49-Way is really the only choice for that game. Just walk away - that game is a pain in the *ss anyway  :banghead:
Robots will kill you.

There are many threads on here complaining about the difficulty of Sinistar and how everyone sucks!  I think you're playing it right!   ;D

(oh, and as a fellow U360 owner, yes, the U360 in analog mode does make the game a lot more like the original)

Well. . .  I guess that's good news that I'm not doing something wrong. I've tried that tactics of getting a few bombs, searching down Sinistar under construction and destroy the pieces, and over and over till eventually I can't keep up, he grows completely and comes to hunt me down. So addictive. . .  Must. . .  kill. . . Sinistar. . .
